Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

I think the station and surrounding buildings are looking superb, the cladding they have chosen will work really well with that area.

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Great photos everyone, I live up in not so sunny Scotland and I'm lucky if I get a trip to Towers once every 2-3 years so I really appreciate them! I really don't see the lift being launched, the banking looks much like any other dropping turn off a lift, I think it will be a LIM/LSM type lift hill ...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Thanks for all the photos everyone, it's great to see.

Looks like all the L-brackets are bolted down to the foundations now as well, hopefully see some wood going on next!

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

It's just twigged on me today that the pre-show for this ride is actually part of the queue line before you board the ride... I'd been thinking it happened while on the ride but when you look at the plans it shows the pre-show area on the ground floor of the building then the ride passes underneath ...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

That structure looks like it'll give some mega head choppers, really excited to be able to see so much of this build. It might still be a Wickerman theme or could be something totally different, it's hard to tell yet. I guess the plans only have to state some form of theming element and detail the a...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Excellent, those trusses are different ones to what was on the lorry a few posts up. The photo Liam posted looks more like the kind of wood used to build the rest of the track. Maybe the other trusses are for a maintenance building or something that's not seen as they just look like cheaper pine tim...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

^ 2nd that Robert. I've seen bits and bobs of wooden construction but never followed a whole project from start to finish. Usually don't pay much attention because they always seem to be in some far flung park that I've no hope of being able to visit anytime soon! Alton is a 5 hour drive away for me...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Looks like the brackets have just been placed in rough positions, none of them are actually bolted down to the concrete yet. I guess they will need to drill and anchor all the holes as they go. Good to see though and yeah, I think we should be seeing some wood being bolted in place very soon! Exciti...

Re: SW8 Speculation and Discussion

Long time since I've posted much on here although I've been lurking recently!!! For anyone who is worried about a family woody being tame check out this video of Storyland's Roar-o-Saurus in New Hampshire. One of my parents lives in Maine so I have been lucky enough to visit this theme park when I w...

Looks epic, love the way it flows through all the inversions, seems to carry a decent amount of speed as well! Excited now!!

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

They were grinding away the edge of the chain guide channel, possibly at a joint in the channel, maybe catching on the chain when it's running.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Testing will last a while, remember it's not just going to be a day or two. Visitors to the park won't know or care when it started. They'll just be excited to see the trains running and will flock around the site with camera phones at the ready!

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Maybe we all get strapped to a chair when we enter the building and tipped over the edge of something to condition us for the real ride, haha! 2 rides in one... lol On a serious note though, I can't see any trains running on the track until all the fence is finished, or else any gaps in the fence ne...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Someone mentioned the barrels on the leg with the needles, I don't think these are meant to be barrels, they are oversized sharps disposal bins... kinda makes more sense with the oversized needles!

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Probably be for special effects of some sort, air blasts etc from the needles, or possibly just themeing that's yet to be installed properly.
