Re: SW8 Speculation and Discussion

Wondering if anything has been confirmed about the name being "Wicker Man" yet?  Just a thought, but is "The Welcoming" maybe a clue?  A wee look at information on the domain "thewelcoming.co.uk" that doesn't currently have any content brings up the following. Domain n...

Re: Scarefest

Does anyone know what weekend it is that travellers usually go to scarefest ? Last year it was the Friday before half term, so this year that would be Friday 20th October. Usually it's the first weekend of Scarefest but MakoMania is right in that they came on the Friday before half term last year. ...

Re: Scarefest

I have to say I'm much happier with 4 mazes and 1 zone than I would be with 3 mazes and 2 zones.

This still leaves them with 5 "scare" attractions (not counting House of Monsters) so they should be able to run this years event on a similar number of actors to last year.

Re: Fright Nights

Having never gotten into The Walking Dead I can't say that I have a massive opinion either way on Thorpes choice of IP for this year. The name of the franchise will be such a big draw for a lot of people so in that regard I can see the mazes being a success however I would like to see Thorpe try mor...

Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

So I looked at the auction page as I quite liked the idea of having the "No Splashing Please" sign in my bathroom.

£78!!!!! :yikes:

No thanks :lol

When can these be posted?

The photos in question aren't mine. They were taken by another member on our visit to Alton this week. I'm sure we shall see them soon enough :)

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

I believe that you are correct in that it will look like the figure is breaking out of the ground. On some higher quality photos that can't be posted onto the forum yet you can see some rockwork along the top of the structure, near the horns. This will add to the effect of the figure bursting out fr...

Another view of the theming element which has had some of the covering lowered from the scaffolding allowing more to be seen.

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

The structure definitley doesn't look tall enough to me, the original plans stated that it wouldn't be around 190m. That is not 190m. Not sure what you're referencing to get that figure but 190m is 623ft :-k That would be more than three times the height of Stealth at Thorpe Park. The figure you're...

Re: The Future of Nemesis Sub-Terra

I have heard numerous different things around the state of Sub-Terra however I would like to believe that all of its problems are now resolved and the only thing keeping it being closed is money, with it being such a labour intensive attraction. Hopefully as the resort continues to recover they'll b...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

soo.. this could also confirm that it is half way constructed? (Thought about the Smiler then.. miss that audio :( ) You asked this question (and it was answered) at the top of the last page of this topic. In terms of bents being constructed I would say they are more than half way there but in gene...

 Elaborate?

I believe it was in reference to the SW8 site using the words "World Class Experience" rather than the traditional "Worlds First" tag line.

Does this suggest that SW8 won't have a world first element and that it'll just be a solid coaster with no gimmick?

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

SW8 construction has taken another turn today with some interesting additions to the top of the theming structure https://i.imgur.com/DxPyCxL.jpg I have said for a while that I believe the structure will be a Minotaur of some sort and the addition of these "horn like" pieces would go some ...

Re: The Future Of Th13teen

I'm sure if the trims were turned off the outdoor section would be improved massively. They can't turn the trims off. The reason they were fitted/turned on was because the train was reaching the 2nd lift hill too quickly which was causing the ride to shut down. Yes the trims are annoying but they a...

Re: Galactica

Today I experienced Galactica with the VR for the first time since the new headsets were introduced and I was highly disappointed. While I did find the new headsets easier to put on than the old ones, that's where the improvements finish. After some fiddling with the focus wheel the startup screen w...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - Quick Questions

Wondering if anyone new where the wheel covers have gone on Nemesis, I'm sure they were there last year! I believe the wheel covers have been removed due to them sustaining a fair amount of damage over the years. They are there purely for aesthetic reasons so don't have any impact on the ride itself.

It's certainly not the scope or budget of a full refurbishment

With all due respect, how can you be sure of the scale of the works that Duel will receive?

The only people that will know that right now are Merlin so it would be premature to presume what kind of work will take place.

Re: Duel: Retheme, Replace or Remove?

There is no proper refurb, it is another AV touch up job like what has happened to Duel a few times over the years. It would be great if they were going to properly take all the props out, restore it, service the animations and put it all back afresh. But it's only a small in-house project, unfortu...

Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

I believe that the over-18 age restriction was in place purely for the school trip season which is why it's now been removed.
