Re: New Refillable Drinks Bottles

The red bottles are a nightmare because they don't have a cap. At least 3 times I ended up with coke all over me because I accidentally squeezed the bottle getting the lid on. One bit of advice I want to pass on though. I recently stayed at Splash Landings for 10 nights, but wasn't intending to spen...

Re: Wobble World

When I asked my 6 year old son what his best ride at Alton Towers was, he said 'Wobble World'. Given that this is just a super-sized bouncy castle, this was surprising, but Alasdair must have spent a good 3 hours in total there during our extended stay. There are two separate areas, one for toddlers...

Re: Quick Questions 2010

How far in advance will the prices be up for the hotel next Feb?, Thinking about half term but would need to book at least 6 months in advance to organise care staff for my Fiance. Prices are not up yet as it keeps saying sold out but obviously it isn't Thanks Vicky I would try phoning up the reser...

Re: Fast Track Opinions?

I quite liked the QBot system they had at Legoland (a virtual queueing system). Yes, it was an extra tenner per person, but well worth it - I reckon it saved me 4 hours in queues. I wouldn't be surprised if they rolled that out at all Merlin parks.

Re: help strangers

In my opinion, if you are into thrill rides and are using public transport, go to Thorpe Park. Alton Towers will take too much hassle to get to from London onpublic transport when you have limited time. Also, other must-see attractions in London are, in my opinion: London Eye Open Top Sightseeing Bu...

Re: hotel package vs park tickets

My tip is to phone reservations rather than do it online for anything that isn't a straightforward 'normal' booking. When I booked my 10 night stay earlier this year, the website couldn't provide the right options for me, but they were able to provide the best prices over the phone.

Re: New PR stunt: free entry to people called Robert Green

If I had my way I would let the real Robert Green in for free, then proceed to strap him onto the track of Rita!

David James should have been in goal - but then I am probably biased!

Who wants to sit in the room watching TV anyway. :P

Maybe a 41 year old who has to stay in the room 'cos their young son has just gone to sleep!

I always take along headphones with a long lead to plug into the TV so I don't disturb his sleep when we stay in hotels.

I wish they had better TV's!

Yes, I've heard there are only 6 channels available - in this age of Freeview there is no excuse for a hotel not to have at least all the Freeview channels available. Even budget hotels manage that.

New Computer Systems at AT Hotels

I thought it would be worthwhile just mentioning that the hotels recently changed their reservation systems, and there seems to have been a few teething problems. I booked a 10 night stay the first week the system went live (back in April) but when I went to pay my balance this week, the booking onl...

Re: British theme parks

Planning restrictions can be overcome for the right project, if it can be demonstated it will bring enormous benefit to the economy, which a large park would. For example, Donald Trump is trying to build the worlds best golfing complex near Aberdeen in an area which, for anything else, wouldn't have...

Re: Alton Towers Or Thorpe Park?

Gotta be AT by a long way - for me, theme parks are all about the theming. AT has it, TP doesn't. Interesting that Bill reckons that TP is the 'more recent' park. I remember visiting it in 1979 when it first opened, so it isn't that recent! But it was unrecognisable back then - it was more of an edu...

Re: British theme parks

I was comparing the theming of UK parks to the US parks - I've only done DLP in Europe, so don't feel qualified to speak about other European parks. The feeling I get for UK parks is that all the effort goes into the ride, and not enough into the theming - look at Rita for example, great coaster tha...

Re: American Parks?

Florida was the best holiday I've ever had - just waiting for my wuss of a son to grow up to make it worthwhile to have a return visit.

However, the price of flights now is astronomical compared to when I last went - it's gonna set me back around 5 grand for the holiday when we do go back.

Re: British theme parks

I have to say that what makes the American Theme Parks better is the theming - they do it so much better over there. Even Disneyland Paris pales compared to America - for example, the theming on the hotels at DLP is woeful compared to the States. I was just thinking over the weekend whether a large,...
