Re: Th13teen - General Discussion

With that in mind wouldn’t you find the whole experience better if the drop wasn’t trimmed? Heck they could have done away with the second lift hill if they took the trims out. Let’s build a coaster with a fast, pacey layout and then make it slower because it’ll wear the wheels out too quickly. The...

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach

I am and have been quite underwhelmed by this, from the initial reveal I always felt it was a poor mans Intamin. I guess we will only know truly after riding it. No doubt it’ll be the smoothest ride there as at BPB there isn’t a great deal of competition on that front these days. Having not been in ...

Re: Fantasy Island

The new colours on Millennium look great I think, regardless of what people think with the choice of colour the original paint has looked tired for a very long time. The chain lift system with the brake fin anti roll back is very dirty and there was a lot of grease stains on the track. They had a go...

Re: Th13teen - General Discussion

Th13teen is maybe the smoothest ride at AT. It’s pacing is great, and the drop is insane, however I prefer the first drop off the lift hill. If you’re in the back row, that drop is an experience like no other.  With that in mind wouldn’t you find the whole experience better if the drop wasn’t trimm...

Re: The Future Of Th13teen

I'm sure if the trims were turned off the outdoor section would be improved massively. They can't turn the trims off. The reason they were fitted/turned on was because the train was reaching the 2nd lift hill too quickly which was causing the ride to shut down. Yes the trims are annoying but they a...

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Icon looks to be an interesting addition. It looks good, the colours look well, the layout looks exciting, and for Blackpool it is the first new coaster for a very long time. Infact if you disregard Infusion as a refurbished ride from 1999 the last brand fire new rollercoaster would have been the Bi...

Re: Which SW coaster do you think will be removed first

Air is an expensive, advanced piece of kit and is one of Alton towers most prized assets. On the flip side the technology is too advanced for it's time - resulting in frequent breakdowns and constant sensor calibration issues. Before the recent smiler incident I'd have said thirteen as it's not real...

Re: Colossus

I visited Thorpe in 2004 and rode Colossus then and it was silky smooth and looked excellent. Went again in 2012 and couldn't believe it was only 10 years old. Scum all around the support bases, lift hill lathered in grease, trains worn out, queue lines vandalised, rust around the station - couldn't...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Block systems are designed in such a way that in theory, it is impossible to allow 2 trains into the same block at the same time. Therefore eliminating the possibility of such a crash. There will be no scenario that the system allows this to happen, it is designed in such a way that in any faulty c...

Re: SW8

Can we return to B&M for the next secret weapon please. It seems the non-B&M SW's flop in one way or another. Rita is disliked and is costly to maintain, Stealth is OK, Thirteen is solid but a little mediocre for a SW, and Smiler is not up to the job. The B&M secret weapons have all been...

Re: What Should Happen Now? (Smiler Incident 2015)

I've voted closed for good - it's been a failure from opening and if it's already putting the park image in jeopardy 2 years on then its not going to make the 18m investment any time soon. Cut losses.

Does a ride that's only 5 years old need a topic like this? It won't be going anywhere any time soon!

I think the age of the ride is largely irrelevant when you consider that a 2 year old ride is currently in the firing line and one I'd consider to be gone well before th13teen.

Re: What will The Smiler be like in 20 years?

I was sure it wouldn't last 20 years before today - now I'm unsure it'll last another 2. It's not up to the job and clearly under engineered and now the bad stigma it has gained will surely be the nail in the coffin.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

It's a prototype ride - the only one of its kind - one that is usually a preset layout and lost definition of itself becoming something it isn't. It's not up to the job is it? In other words the harsh elements and brutal aspects of this ride are unusual to a gerstrauler - I fear the ride materials a...
