Re: SW8 Speculation and Discussion

Regarding the discussion on the lift system, upon further investigation I've noticed Gold Striker has an identical platform at the top of its lift, which IS for the chain return. TheCodeMaster (who lives in California not far from CGA) also confirmed that Striker has an identical concre...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Looking at those pictures Hursty, I may have found potential debunking for the 'LSM propelled lift' theory of SW8's lift. InvadR, the GCI family woodie at Busch Gardens Williamsburg opened this year, had a near identical concrete shape poured for what I've read was the lift motor housing. If this is...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

looks like some extra smaller metal parts have been added to the structure at the top? I just can under stand why there is so many metal parts to the top of the structure. it seems really over engineered at the moment for what it is. must be more to come   Those metal attachments to the top structu...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

15th July update Just a few extra images from me from yesterday drawing attention to something else, these were taken 10 minutes before ride close (and I still got over to X-Sector to have another round on Smiler in in that time ;) ). Just to point out something that nowhere else has, several new b...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Of course it's banked. Saw it yesterday, the height change is much more than the pictures seem to indicate.

Re: Towers Loving Care

I discussed this with Jordan whilst waiting for Rapids to open last week, and we agreed that it's coming to a time when the monorail trains are almost due a reskin, as whilst the current designs are loved by enthusiasts, general public guests won't see much relevance with how the park is today. I th...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

The sense of scale is very apparent now, I strongly suspect there will be several more bents on the drop done by the end of the week, if not the drop done altogether, as three were finished and stacked up ready at the start of the day, and by the time I left at 3pm, two more were almost ready to go.

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

11th July Update Was on park today, plenty of work going on around the site. The Steve Foster crane was continuously moving a concrete container back and forth for foundation pouring in the area I assume was where the first drop will be. One more bent has gone up at the top end since TPW's post, and...

That mockup was made by Patrick Crowne AKA TheCodeMaster when he was with the VTO team. The landscape model is ours.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Sometimes they can, but only if it's safe to do so. I'm not overly familiar with the exact procedures word for word, I just know what I pick up from conversations.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Having spoken to a personal friend who is a Smiler host yesterday, the topic eventually came up and everyone was sat up on both lifts for 45 minutes together. Also worth noting that Lift 2 isn't evacuated 1 guest at a time since only the operator does Lift 2 evacs, meaning there's one member of staf...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Not much further. There'll be another gap at the bottom after that end for clearance on the drop, then it'll probably be up to the crest. Getting really excited seeing this all flying up! :)

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Whilst on park today several more bents of the lift went up, up to the ones that are in for the first drop, but not much else happening. Getting close to the top now!   https://images.discordapp.net/attachments/276865458467110912/330705839344189461/JPEG_20170701_145033.jpg?width=509&height=678 P...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Latest photos from Theme Park Guide show bents for the first drop off the lift going in, indicating a sizeable height change quite early on. Plus more and more bents for the lift hill with the gap for the access road now defined too. https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/19575190_1351407458...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Just a small observation here but has anyone else noticed the breeze block wall going up by the turn into maintenance? Seems like it's for that long narrow building indicated for being behind the maintenance building on the Katanga pathway side.

Re: SW8 Speculation and Discussion

Well just because it's utilising a wickerman name doesn't necessarily mean there's a tie in to either of the movies. Bear in mind it's been a pagan ritualistic act LONG before either of the movies existed :) In fact with Merlin's recent efforts to remove most of the IPs from Alton's site (I believe ...

Re: SW8 Speculation and Discussion

This whole wickerman scenario came about when one of the TTSP team (as always, brilliantly observant :) ) noticed a trademark filing from Merlin for a 'wickerman' name. So far there's no solid evidence to support that it is in any way linked to SW8, but yeah, it makes the most sense to be fair, BUT ...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Here is why I remain of the belief this is outright not a wickerman, and in my mind it has premise. Say for instance that the existing structure is a torso and it's tapering inwards for a head. What explanation can be provided for what appear to be over a dozen connection plates spread across the an...

Re: Virtual Towers Online

Update time! Things are going well for us as a team, Jordan's settled in brilliantly and has cemented his position with our big annual meet up two weeks ago (2nd-5th June). Which brings me onto the next point! Our annual meet took place earlier this month which included the first ever meet of ALL 8 ...
