Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

The timing of this move is a little bizarre, however it is a T&C change I have anticipated for a while now. I do appreciate peoples reservations and criticism, but I have always firmly believed that the MAP terms have been some of the most relaxed in the leisure industry on a comparative level. ...

Re: Restaurants

Hi everyone Just a quick question. Staying at the park bank holiday weekend. Booked in to the roller-coaster restaurant, secret garden and splash landing restaurant. Want to know what to pack for evening meals? How smart do people dress?? Thank you in advance As smart or as casual as you feel reall...

Re: Universal Orlando Resort

To clarify TapuTapu operational requirements, it is to allow you to queue virtually and is not a fastrack system. I appreciate it is easy to mistake it for a system that allows you to queue quicker, however it simply just not. The system is deisgned to keep you away from queues; so your choice to si...

Re: CBeebies Land Hotel - 2017

Key card doors are a wonderful way of keeping non residents out of the hotel. I imagine they'll have hosts during peak times to greet guests as they do in ATH. The hotel needs to be residents only due to its very nature. It would be uncomfortable for all if a random adult guest is sitting in the hot...

Re: Universal Orlando Resort

I've had a back and forth about Volcano Bay for quite some time during construction. I love Universal and I think it is one of the best providers out there at the moment, but I really struggled to see how other than the Volcano itself, this park could come together without looking like an upgraded W...

I have been following this thread for a while now and I must say that I really enjoy your updates - seemed about time to say thanks!

The Vlog was good for a first attempt too, as Chris says :)

Re: Galactica

I appreciate what you are saying Bert, however Rides Manages and the social media teams will not answer questions on information that is still confidential. I would always take employee comments on park in none official statements with a huge pinch of salt. I do however think you are quite right wit...

Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

1. All Smiler OTSRs are now checked twice by different members of staff It is likely you have experienced staff training. When somebody is training on a ride in any capacity, it is standard industry practise for a competent assessor or trainer to check the restraint again after the trainee has done...

Re: Theme Park Seat Restrictions

Generally people struggle with chest size and height, rather than waist. From my experience based on your measurements then you should be okay. It is worth noting that rides staff across the major UK Theme Parks are not allowed to use any force, no matter how light, to help your restraint meet the r...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I would be very careful with those rumoured accusations Kraken as there is very little substance to them. What you are saying is circumstantial at best. The report that Tryst has condensed was very much the conclusion of the court and widely circulated by the papers. The same independent report also...

Re: Drayton Manor

Enthusiasts are very hard on Drayton Manor and unfairly so. They complain about corporations such as Merlin, but then moan about somewhere like Drayton Manor who's family owners spend the majority of the return on investment into the park itself. The park itself is by no meas perfect; but had they n...

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach

This project has excited me from the rumoured beginnings many years ago, and fits into the whole regeneration of the Blackpool front itself. I don't worry that BPPB can pull off a good modern coaster as Mack have become the kingpin of launches now. I do worry how well Blackpool can pull off its oper...

Re: SW8

I can very much see access being via Duel as I've (badly) drawn up below. There is the staff path leading along the side of the Rapids that is only ever used as an exit at Fireworks to assist in the dispersal of guests. http://i66.tinypic.com/2mm697a.png SEALIFE is used during the closed periods so ...

Re: Scarefest

As Scarefest is qucikyl approaching, there was a question i had... What is Alton's Capacity during scarefest? Because it is surely larger due to extra attractions - or am i just thinking jibberish?! :lol Capacity is based on fire regulations, not attractions. A lot of numbers get branded about, but...

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach

How on earth is it costing so much? It's a fair price. - Groundwork - Engineering work - Mack design - Mack Engineering - Steel manufacture - Launch mechanism x2 - PLC system - Transporting a coaster across Europe - Ride build - Ride testing - Extensive training by Mack - Mack initial support - BPP...

Re: Water Park tickets & child to adult ratio

They can be incredibly strict about ratios etc at the waterpark due to the nature of the attraction. The best advice can only be sourced via the resort directly. Id facebook message them initially so you have a trace for an answer, or alternatively contact the hotel switchboard and ask to be transfe...

Re: Scarefest

It is absolutely security related. Generally guests who feel anonymous also act differently and can therefore become unpredictable.

Make up is fine, morphsuit face covers removed are also okay.

As I see many people are saying that Merlin don't run the park very well I thought I might as well get a few facts straight. The Merlin Enteratinments Group dons NOT own Alton Towers. On the 22 May 2007 Merlin completed the purchase of Tussauds and acquired attractions, Madame Tussaud's, The London Eye, Chessington World of Adventures, Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Warwick Castle and Heide Park. As part of the funding, Merlin Enteratinments Group then sold Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Madame Tussaud's and Warwick Castle to Prestbury Investment Holdings Ltd. on the 17 June 2007. Alton towers is operated by Merlin Entertainments Group on a re-newable 35 year lease. So what this topic actuall means is: Should Prestbury Investment Holdings Ltd. sell Alton Towers?
MakoMania wrote:
They can't sell it whilst it's leased to Merlin.

The land itself was sold and leased back on a 35 year deal. The attractions, Hotels etc. are all still owned and operated by Alton Towers Resort Operations ltd which in turn is owned directly by Merlin Entertainments.
