Re: Towers Loving Care

It is certainly restored to it's formal glory. Great to see that Alton are investing in the gardens (even if advised).

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

I wonder if it will be similar in posture as it certainly completes the look, but more woukd have to be added to the structure over the closed season. I could see something similar, but I expect it will be pushing itself out of the ground as it awakes.

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Is anyone planning on staying for a winter break or February half term at Alton? I'm sure with Sealife being open then it will be an ideal opportunity to see the site?

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

Fireworks worked really well, so hopefully the same tactics can be applied to other events with this change.

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

I doubt it will be much more than what we have now. Time will tell, but it does sound like there will be no choice from that statement.

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

It is very likely an attempt to convert more Standard pass holders to Premium. It could also be an conscious effort to spread the number of visitors over the summer months. Personally, I'm fine with the £10 increase. With regards to special events then this is nothing new. Merlin are obviously just ...

Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

When I saw them on FB, I instantly thought Thorpe but good spot with sticker mark. I wonder why it is up at Alton, unless this is an old boat used to practice making adjustments on?

Re: SW8 Area Speculation and Discussion

That would mean rebranding catering outlets. You'd also walk from Mutiny Bay across SW8 Courtyard path back to Mutiny Bay. Personally, this would make the areas very bitty but as I say, anything is possible!

Re: SW8 Area Speculation and Discussion

To me personally it wouldn’t work, not only do you need to cross through mutiny bay to get to haunted hollow as above I don’t think it looks close at all. In my opinion the current front wall way is most like going to he it’s own area, possibly using the new restaurant too. Using Haunted Hollow see...

Re: SW8 Area Speculation and Discussion

You’ve got to remember that the park map is very different to actually being at the park. Having an area where you can’t see it’s only attraction for 80% of it sounds a little odd to me! In reality having the area above would be something like this - https://s18.postimg.org/l6odtsl6h/37615_B9_B-0_A...

Re: SW8 Area Speculation and Discussion

If Haunted Hollows was to be rethemed (which I assume would be the easiest and cheapest to retheme) then I would expect Gloomy Wood to be reduced in size to include just Duel. This would allow Haunted Hollows to be renamed or incorporated into SW8. There is nothing stopping the area being renamed as...

Re: Rollercoaster Restaurant

It is. The lighting is more vivid and atmospheric. The show doesn't seem to play so frequent though. I'd say every 45 mins, instead of every half an hour.

Re: Rollercoaster Restaurant

The upgrade was completed during Scarefest. I visited Thursday 19th October and the new lighting and sound was all operational then. Changes include new lighting to table tracks, table down lighters, projectors and lit up table numbers.

It is certainly an improvement for the better!

Re: Towers Loving Care

The complete queue line certainly needs cleaning with a pressure washer at least. Ideally, the drainage should be sorted too, but in general, The Smiler still needs work as it feels tired. As Dan mentioned, the vertical lift hill screen has been missing all season and the effects on the Marmaliser n...

Re: Future of the Monorail

The monorail is a transport system and not a ride, so with a little bit of a refresh, the trains should be good for a few more years. They take 1000s of guests all day, every day, therefore, they will be subjected to more wear and tear.
