Re: Ride Downtime 2016

Galactica was apparently stuck with people upside down for half an hour today

Re: What do you think should replace CCL?

I think having the two forests next to each other could clash a bit. They could be a bit confusing for people who don't know the park well, and I feel like their themes would just be too similar. That said, it would depend on how it was done. Personally though, I would keep CCL exactly themed as it ...

Re: What do you think should replace CCL?

How about merging it into the forest section, potentially for future investment. It definitely has great potential.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

The more it goes on, the more I don't think it will be rethemed. People are moving on now, and a lot of people I have spoken to just want the ride to be open again.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

In addition to all of these points, it would just end up putting more carriages on the track. This would fail to make accidents less likely.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Just on the note of changing the batwing (which I thought may end up happening), I can easily see them just removing the second part, or just lowering it maybe.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

We need to put pressure on them. It is an absolute outrage.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

"I thought it was never going to end. I just wanted to die." That quote is quite harrowing from Vicky, I understand it must of felt forever but someone that young shouldn't have that mindset regardless of what situation they are currently in. Extreme as it is, I am sure that it is forgiva...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

They aren't trying to deny the rides existence, but are trying to take attention from it to some extent in real life. :) I don't think that is going too well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect Ultimately, I think, branding or not, it will always get a lot of attention as it is a giant ...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if they kept the name and theming but somehow made the overall feel and appearance a bit 'safer', if that makes sense.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Don't believe that. Absolute bull rubbish. What the hell.

Come on! Can they not see that with over 1000 complaints and a petition of more than 55,000 that this is not okay?

the interviewee was able to respond fully to the questions

Erm....

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

literally nobody understands that these "dangerous occurrences", "ride evacuations" and "closures due to technical faults" happen in ever theme park, worldwide, and they mean absolutely nothing. And, on top of it, not only are these regular, normal occurrences, but the...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

The mirror are simply making stuff up out of their backside now, disgusting.

Also, they are clearly not aware that closures due to small delays, mechanical faults, somebody vomiting, etc., are perfectly normal, and while they are annoying, they happen.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I feel this is all irrelevant for this case, as I really doubt that Alton Towers would have had any intention of stopping them.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I do think it is a completely fair presumption that Alton Towers would have already done it immediately, so it doesn't really fall to the guests to do it. I don't know what sort of communication devices they have on location of The Smiler, obviously I see they have phones to communicate with one an...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

What guest on park around The Smiler has not got a phone? Did one of them not think to make a call, I'm sure the background noise would make the operator on the phone believe it wasn't a prank call. But instead Twitter, Facebook, Instagram was full of updated statuses telling everyone The Smiler ha...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

They are completely begging it now, we ought to ignore it and not give them the satisfaction of knowing people are reading. Just on that point about th13teen being closed for a few minutes, people said this scared them, but how stupid can you get? If the ride is closed due to technical difficulties,...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Realistically, a ride shouldn't be built or designed such that any train, full or empty, can stall at any point.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/alton-towers-accident-smiler-could-5844062 It would seem there are threats of having the record removed. Obviously, this could only happen if an inversion is removed, which I personally don't see happening, and it is the mirror and completely unsourced, but I fi...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I have a feeling that if it was a Gerstlauer problem, more of their coasters could well be closed, not just the Merlin ones, and we would possibly have heard more about that. And for those who might say that other companies would not want to close their rides if they aren't involved, I am sure that ...
