Re: Rush

So I am *very* late to the party but I've finally experienced Rush (concerns about fitting into the restraint caused me to put it off, turns out they are pretty forgiving!). Apart from the short cycle it's a great ride, you feel so free with the tiny lapbar. The compressed air sound makes it feel re...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

Honestly, those numbers seem pretty low to me. Phantasialand is quite a bit smaller than Thorpe and Alton and is getting similar numbers through the door. The average ticket prices are higher too. Sure puts the lower spend by Merlin into some context.

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

What a complete mess they've made of this, as TPC said I really hope they take this as an excuse to review some of the rules and signage around the park.

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

I agree, most people are pretty good at not using cameras/phones on rides. I've never been on a ride when it's been stopped because of it. A blanket ban is probably the best way but seeing as they (mostly) fail to enforce the smoking ban and queue jumping I don't have much hope. It is disappointing ...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

Looks like TPW and others have opened a can of worms over on twitter. https://twitter.com/ThemeParkWW/status/995699865404559360 Alton have stated that filming is banned on all rides including the rapids. Nowhere on the signs for the rapids does it say filming is prohibited and I know from personal e...

Re: Vampire

That sounds the same staffing as an offpeak day a few weeks ago, only thing was they forgot to come and get us from the holding point! 15 minutes later everyone decided to just go ahead anyway.  What is the point of the holding point anyway, is it to restrict the number of people inside the building?

Re: Thorpe Park Resort - General Discussion

They can run the existing ride using the lake water but not a new ride. Of course, after a refurbishment is that an existing ride or a new ride? Tricky to say really, Chessington didn't have that issue as the water is in a closed system with filtered water. I do agree, the longer they leave it the w...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - Quick Questions

I think last year it was late July or early August, pretty early in the year. It's a beautiful building and generally a quiet place away from the crowds, I recommend setting aside probably 2 hours to explore it properly!

Re: Drayton Manor

Officially the reason was that the manufacturer either couldn't or wouldn't supply the spare parts for the transit system. I can't find who the manufacturer was but DMP have a history of using non-mainstream manufacturers so they could have gone bust.  Also, as the ride was older it's possible that ...

Interestingly enough the 0 and 1posts aren't on the Instagram or Facebook posts. Are there more enthusiasts on Twitter or something?

So it looks like the local council are going to reject the planning application Merlin/Legoland put in for their upcoming expansion. https://www.windsorexpress.co.uk/gallery/windsor/130944/plans-for-multi-million-pound-legoland-expansion-recommended-for-refusal-by-planning-officers.html?refresh_ce T...

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach

As mentioned on other threads Helix, another Mack double launch coaster, now has seatbelts for this year. According to the park (via TPW) this is because guests felt 'unsafe' and 'exposed' whilst riding.  I've already seen some Facebook and Twitter posts about people not happy with an inverting coas...

Re: Thorpe Park Resort - General Discussion

Thorpe Park have announced the dates of this years Ministry of Sound nights. Rides until 11pm, music until 3am. £10 entry (I'm unsure if it's included in Annual Passes, guessing not though as it's not strictly a Merlin event)

Re: EnergyLandia

Most of the money is coming from EU grants and loans. As Poland is quite poor (compared to other parts of Europe) they are trying to encourage tourism, in this case with Theme Parks. I don't think there were any large scale ones preexisting.  Surprised they are going with an RMC, I would have assume...

Re: Thorpe Park Resort - General Discussion

The most recent SAW film was simple called Jigsaw and it looks like they're pushing ahead with a sequel. Maybe Lionsgate are dropping the SAW name and going with Jigsaw as the franchise name? Apart from changing some signs and maps it's not going to cost Thorpe very much to rename it, Lionsgate may ...

Re: SAW: The Ride

I prefer The Smiler earlier in the season for that reason. Wind was a big factor today, I had just clipped in my belt(s) for Nemesis Inferno when they closed it for high wind. This was at 1658 so that was it, ride closed for the day. Everything else seemed to stop dead on 1700, probably also for win...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Both monitors were working fine last week, probably a one off failure. One is obviously newer than the other, you can see it. Good to see they are working on the effects, Towers seems much busier than this time last year, maybe they are finally getting the revenue/income to actual work on the park. ...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

They need to find some TENSA barriers and extend the VR/ no VR queue as far back as they can. One of my pet peeves is seeing trains going out with empty seats or even rows when there are still people in the queue.

Re: SAW: The Ride

I guess due to the temperature (it was around 6-7c all day, cold enough for SWARM to be closed from around 11 to park close) SAW was running both slower and smoother than usual. We almost stalled on the curve to the breaks before the lift hill, I reckon if the car was going 2 or 3 mph slower we woul...
