Re: Europa Park

I rode Woden during the winter season and it was as smooth as any wooden rollercoaster I've ever ridden. It must be preventative retracking rather than reactive. It really is an amazing place. I visited Orlando for the first time earlier this year (Disney, Universal and Seaworld) and Europa Park is ...

Re: Disneyland Resort Paris

I'm still confused why they picked Tower of Terror to be converted to GotG ride and not Rock 'n' Rollercoaster. I mean, Aerosmith were popular but are they anymore?  Good to see some work taking place on Tower of Terror, it's been a few years since I've been to DLP but I love the way it's so imposin...

Re: Project 2020

I agree with @lewis97, I find it unlikely it'll have an IP attached to it.  It would create so much extra work for Merlin Making Magic too, placing extra design constraints on an already large and complicated project. When it takes months and dozens of design alterations to tweak the colour and desi...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - Quick Questions

Alton Towers You should be fine with lapbars (IIRC: The Mine Train and Thirteen).  Nemesis and Oblivion both have big seats, use the Oblivion test seat as Nemesis doesn't have one.  RITA is a bit hit and miss, some of the seats seem to have a shorter seatbelt than others. I fit in some and not othe...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

'Return for free all season' I thought the season passes excluded the Halloween events + Weekends during the summer? Or have I missed something? This is the way forward I guess, very few parks outside of the UK offer bounce back tickets and most offer a 2 day pass with a small discount instead. Also...

Re: Gardaland

By bringing in lots of money for Merlin :) Gardaland gets around twice the visitors of Thorpe Park whilst being smaller and on cheaper land.

i Corsari really needed some work doing to it, great to see it finally being done. Lets hope they actually sign post the entrance now!

Re: Towers Loving Care

I would assume it'll be the same machines as at the London Eye (which worked pretty well when I used them last!)

Also off topic TPW have posted images of the entrance plaza being renovated, including the ticket booths being removed.

A few years overdue but still good to see! I hope they extend this to their other parks (assuming it actually works of course)

Re: SeaWorld Orlando

I was there on Friday the 19th Jan and operations were DIRE. 2 trains both with VR, average time to dispatch was 4-5 minutes. They had VR on all rows and were preparing and cleaning each VR headset no matter if you wore it or not.  I worked out (because I was bored) that at 5 minute dispatches the t...

Re: Project 2020

Yeah, I think Gardaland would be a more likely choice. It could however be as part of a multi-buy as we've seen before (3x B&M Wing Coasters, 2x Intamin Accelerator etc). I still think a nice non-inverting mega/hyper coaster is the more likely choice. Thorpe already has 2x sitdown multi loopers ...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

Some more confusion, looks like the wording is ambiguous although I hope it means all rides will open at 10am.

It's only small but it's nice to see some work on Colossus taking place. I wonder what else they're planning?

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

When a business is suffering then there are 2 schools of thought about trying to remain profitable: austerity or investment. I've just gotten back from Seaworld Orlando, a park which has suffered a drop an attendance drop from almost 6 million per year down to 4.4 million per year. They responded by...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

As much as I love The Smiler I think it needs some work doing to it. Not quite DBGT 2016 to 2017 level but still.  The queue line needs looking at, drainage and maybe the addition of gates for quieter days. The broken screen and speaker at the base of the second lift hill needs looking into. Some of...

Re: Thorpe Park - The Past

Great work Dom. It's pretty amazing to see just how much the park expanded between 2000 and the present day. 2002-2006 was especially busy!

Re: Nurburgring

I thought it was closed as the track changed owners at the end of 2013? The new owners didn't invest in the ride directly and didn't see the track as an amusement park so they stopped running it. A shame really but understandable from a pure business point of view.

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Talking of safety it'll be interesting to see if they outfit the trains with additional seat belts under the lapbars like they do in the US. The only coasters I can think off with additional seat belts in Europe at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Re: Thorpe Park - The Future

If it's a steel coaster then it's almost certain going to be a B&M. The last non-B&M steel coaster brought by Merlin was The Smiler (unless you count the Octonauts Rollercoaster). I think unless Merlin ask for something that B&M can't do then I think it's a done deal. If they want to wor...

Re: Thorpe Park - General Discussion

They seem to have had quite a few power cuts this year, I assume it's the feed(s) coming into the park rather than a local issue? They're also directing people to the on site customer services, I'm guessing that will be snowed under right now! They should probably admit defeat and start offering fre...

Here's a few pictures I took yesterday of Rush, looks like all the cables are being replaced on it: https://imgur.com/a/grbzd
