Re: Colossus

I noted earlier in the year (see my post above) that they'd added basically a brick dam around some of the submerged supports. I think these might have even been added after the start of the season too. I don't think I've ever seen them close off that walkway/plaza before even when Colossus has been...

Re: Thorpe Park Resort - The Future

As much as I think a Dive Coaster would work pretty well at Thorpe is does present issues with branding. They already have one coaster with a steep/vertical lift hill and a (beyond) vertical drop in SAW. There's a good reason why parks don't build rides which are too similar (unless you're Grunalund...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

Having just gotten back from Walibi Holland, looking at the staggered opening times at Alton just make me sad. Walibi Holland had all the coasters open from 10am on the dot, some of the kids and water rides opened a bit later. There were probably less than 500 people on park all day, it was dead. Su...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

So the towers will only be open, what, just under 3 months this year? I can understand them wanting to prepare stuff early (maybe they are planning to open some mazes for Summer this year) but it's still a shame. The towers are beautiful and I love exploring them whenever I can. Looks like I've miss...

Re: Thorpe Park Resort - General Discussion

A better solution would be to pay on entry rather than exit. People tend to arrive in dribs and drabs but, generally, they all leave around the same time. Not ideal but neither is the current solution.

At least at Thorpe the bus doesn't get caught in the traffic unlike at Alton Towers!

Re: Europa Park

Am I right in thinking that Pirates in Batavia didn't have any lapbars? Hopefully that helped evacuation (assuming the ride was operating at the time). It's still very shocking, I know that area was old but I'm amazed the show building burnt in such a way. I really hope that no one was injured and e...

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Also, Nick Thompson said at the press event today that the park will be adding "about" 3 significant new rides in the next 7 years. I'm sure it was mentioned somewhere that the plan was for Mack to deliver at least 2 more rides for Pleasure Beach (so 3 rides in total including ICON). I gu...

What time does it all kick off?

Re: Rush

So I am *very* late to the party but I've finally experienced Rush (concerns about fitting into the restraint caused me to put it off, turns out they are pretty forgiving!). Apart from the short cycle it's a great ride, you feel so free with the tiny lapbar. The compressed air sound makes it feel re...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

Honestly, those numbers seem pretty low to me. Phantasialand is quite a bit smaller than Thorpe and Alton and is getting similar numbers through the door. The average ticket prices are higher too. Sure puts the lower spend by Merlin into some context.

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

What a complete mess they've made of this, as TPC said I really hope they take this as an excuse to review some of the rules and signage around the park.

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

I agree, most people are pretty good at not using cameras/phones on rides. I've never been on a ride when it's been stopped because of it. A blanket ban is probably the best way but seeing as they (mostly) fail to enforce the smoking ban and queue jumping I don't have much hope. It is disappointing ...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

Looks like TPW and others have opened a can of worms over on twitter. https://twitter.com/ThemeParkWW/status/995699865404559360 Alton have stated that filming is banned on all rides including the rapids. Nowhere on the signs for the rapids does it say filming is prohibited and I know from personal e...

Re: Vampire

That sounds the same staffing as an offpeak day a few weeks ago, only thing was they forgot to come and get us from the holding point! 15 minutes later everyone decided to just go ahead anyway.  What is the point of the holding point anyway, is it to restrict the number of people inside the building?

Re: Thorpe Park Resort - General Discussion

They can run the existing ride using the lake water but not a new ride. Of course, after a refurbishment is that an existing ride or a new ride? Tricky to say really, Chessington didn't have that issue as the water is in a closed system with filtered water. I do agree, the longer they leave it the w...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - Quick Questions

I think last year it was late July or early August, pretty early in the year. It's a beautiful building and generally a quiet place away from the crowds, I recommend setting aside probably 2 hours to explore it properly!

Re: Drayton Manor

Officially the reason was that the manufacturer either couldn't or wouldn't supply the spare parts for the transit system. I can't find who the manufacturer was but DMP have a history of using non-mainstream manufacturers so they could have gone bust.  Also, as the ride was older it's possible that ...

Re: Legoland Windsor Resort - General Discussion

So it looks like the local council are going to reject the planning application Merlin/Legoland put in for their upcoming expansion. https://www.windsorexpress.co.uk/gallery/windsor/130944/plans-for-multi-million-pound-legoland-expansion-recommended-for-refusal-by-planning-officers.html?refresh_ce T...
