Re: FIA Formula One World Championship - General Discussion

McLaren seem to have lost all leadership, with some rumours that nearly every engineering decision was put to a committee and nothing ever happened. On the commercial side I'm guessing they'll be losing their most visible "sponsor" Kimoa, so the cars will be even more empty. ESPN were repo...

Re: FIA Formula One World Championship - General Discussion

Fernando Alonso has today declared his retirement from F1 and will not race in the 2019 championship. Quote from Alonso “After 17 wonderful years in this amazing sport, it’s time for me to make a change and move on. I have enjoyed every single minute of those incredible seasons and I cannot thank en...

Re: Wicker Man General Discussion

Descendents of the Beornen?  I think not.  When we were last there the ride stopped and one of the team had to go to the top of the lift tower to reset - meanwhile two female hosts in the station were having a very loud conversation with each-other, and I quote, " I'm not paid enough to do tha...

Re: Congo River Rapids - General Discussion

I'm not sure I'd want to get Florida wet on a typical UK day :P The rapids we have in the UK are from a much older generation of rides and have also been designed with the UK's climate in mind, so they'll be less splashy than the US ones designed for hot climates. It also doesn't help that they lowe...

Re: TT Summer Festival 2018 - Reviews and Feedback

Thought I'd drop you some feedback from a conversation I had whilst queuing for early morning Wicker Man, the morning after the festival. Spoke to a man and his son, who were both rollercoaster fanatics, and mentioned that I'd had fun riding Wicker Man the previous evening. They immediately asked if...

Re: Thorpe Park Resort - General Discussion

Can't imagine it helps that those walkers seem to keep taking out the generator for the Safe Zone... The park actually gave me a similar reason as to why I was getting random emails and text messages about someone else's booking a few months back! :lol Staggered openings appear to have arrived at T...

Re: Thorpe Park Resort - General Discussion

Thorpe Park had another power cut this evening, on the SSE supplied part of the park again. Looks like it was down for no more than an hour this time.

SSE seem to be having a few too many issues in that area.

Re: Cedar Point

Theme Park Insider are reporting that Steel Vengeance has closed this afternoon, apparently due to a drive tyre from the brake run snapping off. A Facebook user posted to a Cedar Point fan group that it appeared a drive wheel snapped and hit a brake fin, bending it. The wheel then fell into the que...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - Quick Questions

On Sunday evening Galactica was saying 60 on both ride times and the board, but was probably only 5. Meanwhile Nemesis was listing 5 minutes on both online and the board, but the entrances were all bolted up and padlocked for the night.

Re: ‘Stargazing Pods’ Accommodation Discussion

Could it be a series of telescopes? Hopefully they will put 2 or 3 in a line, otherwise, it isn't very family friendly when only one can do it at a time. One of the plans said they were being made by Merlin Magic Making, so hopefully they should have thought through guest use. Assuming they're not ...

Re: Wicker Man General Discussion

Host interaction I found was lacking this weekend (glad you had a better experience on that run through), which is strange seeing as how they're meant to have had a character developed for them. Other than station batching, I don't recall any of the hosts saying a word, other than "move forward...

Re: The Alton Towers Dungeon - New for 2019?

A thought about this At Dungeon. If it happens, I wonder if they will run any Lates like London and York.  A missed opportunity for paid evening entertainment if they don't. But if it's located in the Charlie building, then any after hours usage seems somewhat unlikely sadly. If they'd had the spac...

Re: ‘Stargazing Pods’ Accommodation Discussion

Will these pods also come with telescopes and star charts and maps I wonder? Shown on the plans are three "telescope positions" in the central green area. I expect that would mean three telescopes, which isn't really a lot when you have 102 keys with a few guests in each pod. Please don't...

Re: The Walking Dead: Living Nightmare Extreme

Saw Alive has been in rehearsals today and staff have said that they are hoping to have the attraction open on Saturday which explains why Living Nightmare is closed Oh, that is good news. Had hoped that was what this meant. Not sure why Thorpe couldn't announce that, rather than being non-commital...

Re: The Walking Dead: Living Nightmare Extreme

Living Nightmare has been shut the last couple of days, with the park's Twitter now saying they can't guarantee it will be open at the weekend either. No sign of Saw Alive having opened or being expected to open either, which is a bit disappointing. The park could really use the extra capacity eithe...

Re: ‘Stargazing Pods’ Accommodation Discussion

I wonder if they came up against opposition for just Stargazing Pods on its own, as it appears there are a few operators in the UK of stargazing glamping and pod based accommodation.

Re: Merlin General Discussion

In order to catch the Mouse, you have to be better than the Mouse, and at the moment, Merlin are terribly far behind. Sadly though, this is practically impossible at least in terms of the resort parks, despite the marketing speak they use to say how they're the second largest operator behind only D...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Unfortunately, the queueline was not pleasant at the weekend. Dan took a photo of the stairs and it was not nice. There was lots of rubbish... Sounds about right. ... and bundles of hair :| :O  How? The protocol for basic cleaning of the queues seems to be for the ride-ops to do it as part of...

Re: Merlin General Discussion

Blooloop  have an interview with Nick Varney where they at length discuss a wide range of topics from the entertainments sector. I've pulled a couple of interesting aspects out of it that may be relevant to the UK parks. VR Nick Varney appears to have a more muted interest in VR, making the point t...
