Re: Rumba Rapids

The old boats felt solid with the high backs and central grab bar. As a kid you got thrown about a lot, especially by the rotating bumpers, but there was something special about riding these boats and it was probably my favourite ride in the park. When they replaced them with the low backed and no g...

Re: Europa Park

Looopings are reporting that two monorails collided, leaving two people mildly injured. In Europa Park two monorail trains collided on Saturday morning. Around 09.30 hours two vehicles of the EP Express collided with the theme hotel El Andaluz. Two people were slightly injured, reports the police. ...

Re: ‘Stargazing Pods’ Accommodation Discussion

The planning documents did say that the pods would have heating. Can't recall any details beyond that though. Well hopefully the heating aspect has been thought through. Was surprised that they were intending on opening them in the spring, I'd had thought they would have opened them later in the ye...

Re: ‘Stargazing Pods’ Accommodation Discussion

I don't know about heating, but they'll have insulation. Possibly too small to have any proper heating?  I can't imagine insulation will do much if the overnight temperature is below 5c and the daytime temperature barely got above 10c all day. Any heating would have to be electric fan heaters and t...

Re: ‘Stargazing Pods’ Accommodation Discussion

So do these sheds have any heating in them? Or are they going to be lovely and damp for all but the maximum 1 month a year when it's warm and dry in Staffordshire.

And the prize winners will get to stay in them in March? Hope they give them lots of blankets...

Re: Rumba Rapids

Thorpe have also got a set of rafts with the new gates and grab bars.

Makes me wonder if this is a Merlin invention or if they're working with the manufacturer to retrofit the existing rafts.

1. Nemesis 2. Wicker Man 3. Oblivion 4. Th13teen 5. Runaway Mine Train 6. The Smiler 7. Galactica 8. Rita 9. Spinball Nemesis and Wicker Man are close for me. I much prefer the atmosphere and overall themed experience from entering the queue to exiting the ride of Wicker Man. However, the ride exper...

Re: Thorpe Park Resort - General Discussion

More staggered openings from Thorpe. Having late openings is all well and good, but I would have hoped they'd have the staffing levels in place so it doesn't cause issues for the next operating day. Especially as the park is probably busier 10-11am than it is at 9-10pm. https://i.imgur.com/27zw4GH.p...

Wirtualna Polska are reporting the following (via Google Translate): The tragic accident occurred on Thursday, August 16, around 20:30. According to the police, the service technician bent over a mobile phone lying under the Hyperion roller coaster, which was probably lost by someone. He did not no...

Re: FIA Formula One World Championship - General Discussion

McLaren seem to have lost all leadership, with some rumours that nearly every engineering decision was put to a committee and nothing ever happened. On the commercial side I'm guessing they'll be losing their most visible "sponsor" Kimoa, so the cars will be even more empty. ESPN were repo...

Fernando Alonso has today declared his retirement from F1 and will not race in the 2019 championship. Quote from Alonso “After 17 wonderful years in this amazing sport, it’s time for me to make a change and move on. I have enjoyed every single minute of those incredible seasons and I cannot thank en...

Re: Wicker Man General Discussion

Descendents of the Beornen?  I think not.  When we were last there the ride stopped and one of the team had to go to the top of the lift tower to reset - meanwhile two female hosts in the station were having a very loud conversation with each-other, and I quote, " I'm not paid enough to do tha...

Re: Congo River Rapids - General Discussion

I'm not sure I'd want to get Florida wet on a typical UK day :P The rapids we have in the UK are from a much older generation of rides and have also been designed with the UK's climate in mind, so they'll be less splashy than the US ones designed for hot climates. It also doesn't help that they lowe...

Re: TT Summer Festival 2018 - Reviews and Feedback

Thought I'd drop you some feedback from a conversation I had whilst queuing for early morning Wicker Man, the morning after the festival. Spoke to a man and his son, who were both rollercoaster fanatics, and mentioned that I'd had fun riding Wicker Man the previous evening. They immediately asked if...

Can't imagine it helps that those walkers seem to keep taking out the generator for the Safe Zone... The park actually gave me a similar reason as to why I was getting random emails and text messages about someone else's booking a few months back! :lol Staggered openings appear to have arrived at T...

Re: Thorpe Park Resort - General Discussion

Thorpe Park had another power cut this evening, on the SSE supplied part of the park again. Looks like it was down for no more than an hour this time.

SSE seem to be having a few too many issues in that area.

Re: Alton Towers Resort - Quick Questions

On Sunday evening Galactica was saying 60 on both ride times and the board, but was probably only 5. Meanwhile Nemesis was listing 5 minutes on both online and the board, but the entrances were all bolted up and padlocked for the night.
