Hopefully, these video statements will slowly put an end to the most pointless news articles ever!
It is the news outlets which look daft now as they are reporting on....well.... nothing!

So the website now states that AT annual passes are no longer valid for fireworks entry! Did not mention that when I purchased back in April :(

You should be fine as what it says is:

Please be aware, those who have purchased an Alton Towers Annual Pass after 24/07/17 will not be permitted to use their pass during our Fireworks event in November.

In other words, those who purchase an annual pass in the current sale won't be able to attend Fireworks.

So does that mean that if you were to buy the Annual Pass before the sale and before fireworks entry was excluded, you are still allowed in to the fireworks? Also, if you have an Annual Pass, does this stop you from paying for entry to attractions on any other blackout dates?

1. Yes
2. If the blackout dates applied when purchasing your pass for other parks, then they still apply. Any new blackout dates and you should be fine getting in without paying.
If you already own an annual pass (pre-sale) then you are still allowed entry to fireworks and new blackout dates, just to clarify.

Yeah, but could you still go to an attraction on any blackout date and pay for entry like other guests, despite owning an Annual Pass that this date would be unavailable? Basically, if I was to buy a new pass in the sale now, could I still go to Alton Towers Fireworks if I paid like other normal guests, even though I still have the pass that I wouldn't be able to use on this date?

The Stoke Sentinel have published a column by the Resort's Divisional Director Ian Crabbe in which he discusses a range of things from the CBeebies Land Hotel, SW8, and the how the Resort have a significant amount of investment planned for the future. Whilst it doesn't give specifics, it's certainly an interesting read and does sound positive for the Resort going forward.

Anyone for a random VR attraction in the Alton Towers Hotel's Emperor Suite? Going by these photos posted in the MAP Facebook group, it seems there is now a WePlayVR upcharge experience called Mayan Adventure, which looks to be one of the two games they can supply.

Here's a trailer for what's presumably the experience on offer along with a few screen-grabs.

I'm probably going to show my age now, but those screen grabs kind of remind me of the old children's TV show, Knightmare :lol

It is interesting that this has appeared in the Alton Towers Hotel, kind of makes me wonder if they're using it as some kind of test to see how this kind of VR experience is received. Is it possible that we could see a larger scale interactive VR attraction in the theme park in a couple of years?

Ooooh I might have a go on this! Any more info such as when it's open, is it a 'just turn up' sort of thing or do you need to book a time?

If Galactica's "success" is anything to go by, I would predict now that it's unlikely... I suppose that the type of experience going on in the Alton Towers Hotel is completely different though, meaning less technical problems hopefully.

I really hope we see no more VR at Alton or any other Merlin park!

I could see VR working for a game stand or something. Vive controllers, gotta shoot targets and dodge things for a high score, could have a screen showing bystanders what the player is seeing.

I too am of the age to remember this classic programme. Always on a Friday afternoon.

If I remember correctly Alton Towers did have a VR type team game thingy. It was many years ago and it say around the corner where the Donut shop is in Mutiny Bay. I think it had about 20 chairs and you had a VR Headset.

I kinda remember you had a fight a dragon or something and you had to stamp your feet and shout. It was also scored. Cant remember what year it was but something is telling me early 2000s

Yeah, I thought the same - clearly time for a VR reboot!

I always wanted to go on Knightmare, although I was scared by the thought that if I fell through the floor then I'd be lost forever!

I used to like Knightmare too, a classic TV show :)

But regarding this attraction, it actually looks quite good and if Merlin were to put anymore VR additions in, I hope it won't be on any rides!

Is Sir Algernon in that VR thing? Because if he is, then it could be a clue as to the theme of the next hotel room refurb and if it doesn't, then it might have something to do with ether the 4th maze at scarefest, or SW8!

Do you want some chips with that salt, CV?

I think the VR experience looks pretty good to be honest, I do enjoy VR when it's done right as it seems to have been here :)
