Rita and The Smiler are both now down. Alton Towers are really having a horrific day operations wise.

Enterprise on 35 minutes and blade on 30. Hopefully they’ll eventually learnt the importance of flat rides, people still want to ride them!

Of course. To be fair I was going to start my next post in there. I assume there will be a next post regarding ride downtime today as well.  :lol

Also, Alton Towers has just said via Twitter that the theme park will now be open until 6pm tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.

Lots of people on social media complaining about waiting over an hour just to get into the park. Has the plaza redesign been a mistake?

I don't think it has been a mistake as booths have just been relocated. What I do think has slowed things down is the bag searches, which in my opinion, I'd rather have in place to ensure guest safety. I do think they could improve admissions though, by having a bag free turnstile, allowing quick entry to the park. Obviously this will still have to be patrolled. Also, with MAP and hotel guests only receiving ERT, this has caused some confusion and dismay, but staff have been active in ensuring people have the correct ticket.

Not been this year but are you saying if we have no bags we still have to join the huge q and wait to be waved through? If thats the case I wont be bothering again.

At least the long queues set guest expectations to a more realistic level I suppose. Having said that, no one will expect that poor operations mean queues stay long, poor maintenance mean rides break down frequently, meaning queues stay long, lack of flat rides mean queues stay long... all meaning that at the end of the day, you might not have even been on many rides...

And I'm not saying that you should go to a theme park and expect not to queue. I'm very aware that it doesn't work like that. But for a resort that in previous years had very good operations, it makes what is happening this year look even worse. Merlin, YOU NEED TO SORT IT OUT. VERY, VERY SOON.

Unfortunately, a couple of queues form and contain a mixture of guests with bags, picnic trolleys etc. Last Friday, I was queuing at the Monorail station for ERT, but the queue moved quite quickly.

Hey guys some of you go very regularly compared to me (2/3 times a year) with Alton now implementing no single rider queues me and the mrs will now have to use the normal queue (not really into coasters but will ride some), but my question is have you seen many couples queue together then only one ride and the other walk through when they get to the station? I don't really like the prospect of being separated for hours on end, contacted Towers and they have said it's fine just don't want to look like the awkward ones.

Going Sunday but after reading the trip advisor reviews and comments on the forums I am now dreading our trip, does anyone have any tips on how to move about the park during the day, making the most of getting on as many rides as possible?

To be honest with you I'd leave Wicker Man towards the end of the day, as it does go down at least twice every day. I'd probably hit Oblivion first, then Smiler. The head onto TH13TEEN & Rita, Skyride over to Nemesis & Galactica, get a spot of food - then do the likes of Duel, Rapids and Hex. Do a few re-rides, bearing in queue times. Then head to Wicker Man and get in the queue for that! Also, bear in mind it does shut at 6 pm on Sunday! Other than that I would expect a pretty busy day (considering at this moment in time Wicker Man is on 200 minutes, TH13TEEN & The Smiler on 120 minutes, etc..) so, if you do have the money to hand I would consider purchasing fastrack. Finally, have a great day! I'm sure it won't be too bad as both my visits this week haven't been awful, just fairly busy!

Thanks so much Stan, I am looking forward to it, massive towers fan but don't go as regularly as I like which is why I need to make the most of my day.

I still don’t understand why people go to a theme park in a school holiday with a new major ride and not expect to queue!

It's not really just that though. Simply you can't go to a theme park and expect not to queue obviously, but when the park is very underfunded by its operator, Merlin, poor operations and maintenance negatively impact guest experience.

I’ve seen it loads of times, it’s not awkward at all. Just say to the ride op before you get assigned to a row and they will have no problem with it at all!

Have a good trip when you get down there!

In the car on the way back from a day at Towers; completely disappointed to be honest. Managed 5 rides in 6 hours, Wicker Man was down for probably 3 quarters of the day and the operations were awful. I was evacced from the station once then came back and they were sending trains with people on after a breakdown without opening the queue for a good while. Didn't manage Nemesis because of the massive queue created by running it on 1 train.

On the bright side the Duel refurb is nice, love the new updates to the queue especially!
