I do like he sound of this and I think it'll be a nice addition to the resort, however there is still an issue with this. It's a nice little attraction, but I still don't think it's the right move. As Lakey said it would be nice to see these sort of smaller investments in other Merlin parks, but why Chessington?

The park is crying out for its major ride yet they fail to deliver year on year. I think the most unfortunate part of this is that the park won't be gaining any attractions next year, just replacing which certainly won't help with the already dire throughputs.

Chessington really need to sort the park out, because it's becoming irrelevant with other theme parks such as Paultons Park rapidly gaining popularity.

Hadn't occurred to me until now to check the proposal's for Chessington's LTDP to see if they fit in with the effective relocation of the carousel. Intriguingly the current carousel is in one of the areas annotated as a potential site that could be redeveloped into a 'ride/animal attraction', so this could be the first step in making way for a future major development.

Toadie's Crazy Cars and Tiny Truckers are also in this highlighted area, so it will be interesting to see if these attractions are removed in the coming years. Of course once Chessington submit their actual LTDP we'll have a much clearer idea of what their intentions for this area are, but hopefully it'll be something exciting...

I was thinking about this when I heard the plans. My prediction is Toadies will go in 2018 for a 2019 high investment.

The application for the new carousel was unsurprisingly approved, subject to conditions, on Tuesday.

The new carousel seems to have been officially named "The Chessington Adventure Tree", with construction walls having this name placed on them.

The Chessington Adventure Tree has now been installed and it doesn't look quite as odd as I thought, however when the walls come down will really be when we can judge how good it looks with the rest of the surrounding area.

A photo posted in the MAP Facebook group gives a closer and mostly unobstructed look at the tree theming element. It does look pretty nice, if unashamedly channeling Animal Kingdom's Tree of Life.

The Adventure Tree has not opened today. It could possibly open tomorrow but nothing is set in stone just yet

I would assume it will open this weekend in time for Easter holidays, with the queue time update being merely a test, much like we saw with the CBeebies attractions the day before they opened.

Chessington's Long Term Development Plan has recently been submitted as part of the application for the Safari Lodge development. SouthParks News has summarised some of its key points:
First consulted on back in April 2016, the Resort’s Long Term Development Plan outlines the proposals for a number of new additions across the Resort over the next 5-10 years, including new rides, accommodation and additional attractions and facilities. One of the most interesting proposals contained within the LTDP is for a new family rollercoaster to be located on land in front of the current Land of the Dragons and to the side of Transylvania to be added between 2020-22. With it being 12 years since the addition of the Resort’s last major coaster it is seen as an important part of increasing visitor numbers. During consultations it was suggested this ride could be either a ‘Wild Jungle Ride’ or a ‘Water Coaster’, however the LTDP does not commit to a specific ride type.

An additional new Resort attraction is also indicated to be planned for the area near Scorpion express to be added in the 2020-22 period, however what this will be is not yet known. Also indicated for 2020-22 is the redevelopment of the area currently home to Tiny Truckers and Toadies Crazy Cars, and the area in front of Hocus Pocus Hall which at the moment comprises of the Front Lawn and the area occupied by the wooden huts – both of which are set to house ride/animal attractions. The Resort also plans to make additions to its animal collection as well as improvements to its current animal enclosures between 2023-25, as well as refreshing the current attractions across the Resort.

There are also details of a number of smaller developments within the masterplan, including a possible attraction linked to the Safari Hotel which will re-use existing buildings and could possibly create either a soft play area, indoor trampolines, or a 3D cinema due in 2020-22. Improvements are also planned to the southern car parks, which are currently used for overflow parking at peak times, to add more durable surfaces and also improve access. Staff and back of house facilities will also be developed and improved.
