It's surpirising how little the basic layout of the park has changed really, circus world is now Asia, 5th Dimension is now Tomb Blaster and there is the whole new Zufari/Wanyama area but the basic park layout hasn't changed.

Shows how much Chessington needs a bit of investment I think, but at the same time they could restore thing back, hopefully Dragon Falls and Runaway Mine Train will be looking much better in 2014 when the refurb is finished.

RMT, Dragon Falls & Rameses will be Re-opening for the 2014 season.

It's amazing how magnificent the park looked back then, so much magic about the place.

You are wrong, RMT is closed for the whole 2013 season. Work is then being done on the themeing for both rides over the 13/14 closed season and then both re-open in 2014.

Look at the page with all the characters on. Page 6 I think. The clown on stilts called Benson, I'm 99% sure that's Dave Benson Phillips from TV's Get Your Own Back. Am I right on this?!

Went to chessington couple of weeks ago, dragon falls open.

They have not long now.

Therefore made the assumption if the RMT was closed for a year so would dragon falls.

Am I really missing something, but how does it take up to 2 years to remove and replace some theming on a very basic coaster and flume, it is not like they already have a template to copy.
If you go down to the woods today

There was a contest to design a new dragon falls that was said to end in September ...

Maybe they're making a new flume?

With reference to Benson, I too have thought it was him since I dug out my old guide book a few years back. I checked his website and it was him. He sites his season at Cheasington as the time when things really took off for him and he realised that entertaining children would be his full time vocation. What a legend. I wonder if any other famous faces started their careers at Chessington, Thorpe Park or Alton Towers?

Fair play to Dave Benson Phillips, he must have shot to fame really quickly as a result of his time at Chessington, he was a big name by the mid 90s.

To clear things up, all renovation work is being done over the closed season, so november until late march/april...when the park re-opens....the entire park is going to be closed properly this christmas, with only the zoo being open on specific days, so they can do work on the entire park, but mostly the work on dragon falls and the runaway minetrain.

also, keeping with the 90's theme of this thread, and because i haven't seen it elsewhere, here's a video i found on youtube of the rather spectacular terror tomb, pre-tomb blaster....abdab at his jewel stealing finest

SouthParks have just added a new feature page bidding a fond farewell to Safari Skyway. The page looks at the popular ride's past, as well as including some exclusive photos of the deconstruction of the attraction.

Samurai at CWOA

Mon Jan 30, 2017 5:31 pm

Who misses Samurai at Chessington before it was moved to Thorpe? I thought it was in the perfect area near Dragon Falls and the red colour scheme looked awesome! Now the only thrill ride they have is Rameses Revenge. Do you guys remember and miss it?

I remember Samurai at Chessington and I honestly thought it looked quite good, but since it moved to Thorpe, I actually prefer it at Thorpe. It sort of feels right being there.

I'm quite bitter about the wild wood as I always wanted to see the inside of the Transylvanian Burger Kitchen, can anyone post a pic of what it looked like inside as Transylvania and what it looks like now?

There are no differences as far as I could see.
