I personally quite like it...

Certainly nicer than having a plain wall, or am I forgetting something stand out from the previous building?
Remember the exterior is yet to be finished. :)

So far it looks like everything I hate about Merlin attraction rethemes.

Cheap vinyl coverings on pretty much everything - Why not live up to your second only to Disney claim and use real wood and finishings like every other theme park company?

Hastily applied paint and cheap 'finishing' over existing fixtures. It looks cheap and nasty.

I sincerely hope the attraction itself is different.

The exterior is using real wood isn't it?

The shop on the other hand does look pretty lack lustre - but as said we aren't sure if this is the final product so I'm going to hold off judgement. The ride appears to be using 3D sets based on the character seen on evac steps last week so that's a plus, but who knows...

I'm not liking the shop interior either, it does look bare but also not much effort seems to have gone into it. It's such a shame that Merlin can't spend a bit more money on making these things better to do justice to the IP - I'll reserve judgement on the ride itself until I've actually been on it but a part of me is feeling disappointed already.

I have to admit after seeing it in person I really like what's there. It's not near finished so there's no point judging it however I really like all the wood finishings (after looking closer I can confirm they are real) and it's really not awful. The shop is very odd though, it felt very empty in its current state. I'll have an update later with lot of pictures including some little bits that I believe were missed by others yesterday! :)

Here's a few images I managed to get!

The exterior is pretty good so far, whilst it's not going to win any awards for best facade it's better then what was previously there, and in my eyes that's always a positive!

The shop, however, is a different story. Again whilst it's somewhat batter than it's predecessor in terms of theming it just lacks something. The use of vinyl wraps and clean cut wooden desks makes the shop feel as though it's some kind of modern cabin rather than the shop of a Gruffalo ride, however I appreciate the tree trunks dotted around the shop!

The merchandise on offer was quite sweet and of high quality, however this is an IP so prices were bumped up. Such as with the Gruffalo plush (pictured above) costing £16. I did buy the ride pin badge though...

As a whole I have fairly high hopes for this, we know Chessington do rethemes well and so I have no reason to panic - especially when what was previously there wasn't the most incredible thing in the world by the time it had come to the end of its life! :)

Chessington have begun counting down to the attraction's opening on Saturday, and have posted what looks to be a photo from inside on Facebook (although admittedly quite a close-up one). Perhaps we shall get to see a little more in the coming days...

The Sunday Times Travel Magazine have posted some photos of The Gruffalo Rooms on their Twitter.

As we've come to expect with Merlin (and was evident from the concept images produced) it's mostly vinyls, however there are a few nice touches with the 3D Gruffalo model above the double bed and the lighting in the bunk bed area which gives the impression of being in a woodland.

I wouldn't say I'm getting overly excited about 3D characters alone, as really that's what we should expect at the very least. For me to be truly impressed with this attraction I'd like to see a couple of decent animatronics as well as plenty of animated features.

Indeed, although this should offer confirmation of 3D elements as some were concerned about this.
