Thorpe Park Hotel

^I really don't believe that - what company is going to want to associate themselves with such an immature, childish brand, with icons such as the bobbing heads and events such as 'Thorpe Park Blows-it Up'? Perhaps companies with a similar identity themselves, but that's extremely niche.

I don't think companies care that much. It's a theme park, companies know that. The brand identity isn't THAT different to any other park.

It is interesting that it seems this and Chessie's hotel are mostly for conferences while Alton's hotels are mostly for guests.

What's this about a lake show on that MTDP?

If they are going to be aiming at the conference and business market, will be interesting to see how they compare with the Runnymede Hotel & Spa, just down the road.
I can imagine the hotel getting a lot of use, being close to the M25.
I'm hoping that with the launch of the hotel Thorpe will get a slightly classier re-brand. They can still aim at the Thrill market, whilst showing some level of style and professionalism in their marketing!

Their current marketing does work though... Why would they bother shifting their attitudes and advertising when what they do now brings in plenty of visitors and plenty of cash. Yes it is brash, bold and 'in your face' but then that is what Thorpe Park is... And it works for them. I mean, they capitalise their name in every press release they do, can you get more 'in your face' than that?!

But does it bring in that many visitors?

The impression I got from the guy doing the educational talk was not the case, he also acknowledged that the park is full of chavs which is not what they want, and there is a long term goal of attracting families back to the park.

The lake show shown on the MTDP is in the long term plans for the park (despite being on the medium term plan) and its designed to be a nightly laser/fountain/fire show. The aim is to open the park for longer hours once the hotel is open and having something like that would encourage guests to stay later.

Does anyone know if construction has started on the hotel yet?

I assume it will be open for 2013...if so construction must have started or be close to starting.

Thorpe Park Hotel

I did notice when I left TP on the 15th that there were markers signs out in the area where the hotel is planned for. Not sure how new they are cos it was a long way! Not seen them before though!

I would think that would be confirmation. I'm surprised they didn't start laying some foundations/the basics in Closed Season. Bring it on!

Just to draw your attention to the aerial map in this link...

http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&cp=51.403675%7E-0.515153&style=h&lvl=17&sp=aN.51.403675_-0.515153_Thorpe%20Park#

This was relatively recently taken (around October/November 2011) as you can see by The Swarm midway through construction. If you look at the old farm you can see how they have created channels on the old sheep fields and flooded them, to compensate for infilling the land for The Swarm and the island behind it. Interestingly, they are no longer two islands but one large one, but I presume this is a temporary measure to allow access for construction vehicles.

More interestingly, you can see how they have cleared the land over the other side of the lake, which looks ripe for development of the new hotel. It's amazing to see how much land Thorpe Park actually own which ISN'T lake, enough to build half a dozen hotels if they so desired....

What you think of the idea of a thrill water park being built to the left of the hotel within the next decade?

Why do TP even need a hotel? The park isn't exactly in the middle of nowhere, and there are lots of Travel Lodge style hotels nearby.
It's all about keeping people for another day and when people aren't in the park still having them spend money rather than spending it elsewhere

That what it looks like, the planning document says due to delays with funding and slight changes to the plans they cant start work till at least late 2013, so they plan to open one this "snoozebox" in 2013 to test the market due to the economic climate then go-ahead and build the normal hotel providing this one is a success.

Its certainly one up on the shipping container shops!!

I can't see how enough adequate sound proofing would be done in such a small area. You would be able to hear everything going on next door!

Not for me I'm afraid - I shall stick to expensive boutique hotels ;)

I bet there's illegal immigrants out there who'd call those rooms cramped. And for £80-£170 a night?

I'd rather sleep in the car than in of these "hotels".
