Myself, I ruddy hate the idea, they look god awful.

However Thorpe Parks 'target' audience may see it a different way. Most of the Thorpe Park crowds deserve to be locked up in shipping containers!!
Now's not the time for fear. That comes later.

I think it looks pretty great! I find it quite funny that Merlin have obviously heard that people are making fun of the Shipping Containers, so they are using them for accomodation. Well done Merlin. :D

An expensive joke... Right.
THC selectively targets and destroys tumor cells while leaving healthy cells unscathed. Conventional chemotherapy drugs, by contrast, are highly toxic; they indiscriminately damage the brain and body.

Toke up...

They work well for places like the GP, because there is very very limited accommodation and its one up from a tent, but I think the Thorpe area has a lot more accommodation!

Let me give you the full story that broke today in local press and see what you all think.

TBH i hate the idea be it thorpe or anywhere - WHY is merlin so into the idea of having Shipping units as parts to rides and HOTELS now. Just makes me want to laugh - Dont get me wrong i love the hotels at Alton Twers and only ever stay when there is a offer on as its not cheap BUT to sleep in a shipping unit looks cheap and messy and i for one do not think its a good idea.

Thorpe Park has applied for planning permission to install temporary on-site accommodation in time for the 2013 season, ahead of the construction of a permanent hotel.

In documents submitted to Runnymedge Borough Council, the park outlines a proposal to install container-style bedrooms provided by UK-based portable accommodation specialist Snoozebox.

If the plan is approved, then Snoozebox will install a total of 117 bedrooms on a site close to the park's entrance bridge, which will be highly visible to guests at the park. Each bedroom will be housed inside a recycled ISO shipping container, and will feature an en-suite wetroom. The containers will be arranged in two rows, with a central walkway between them, with each row featuring a maximum height of two containers (which are designed to be stacked on top of each other).

The temporary hotel will be very similar to those provided at this year's Diamond Jubilee Pageant in Windsor, as well as the Isle of Man TT races and the British Grand Prix. It will also feature two "motherships" (plant rooms) and a container that will act as the hotel's reception. Along with the rooms, these will be painted grey. A temporary boardwalk will link the site to the park's entrance bridge.

Guests will see the Snoozebox hotel on the right as they enter Thorpe Park.
Each of the Snoozebox rooms will host a double bed and two bunks beds, along with a TV and built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. Guests will be able to access the site and the rooms using a key card.

The Snoozebox room interiors offer basic amenities.

In June 2011, Thorpe Park received planning consent to install a much larger, 250-room permanent hotel on the site of a plant run by building materials firm CEMEX that was in place during the park's previous life as a quarry. The park submitted an adjusted plan in November 2011, and it cites delays in the approval of this as one reason for the move to install the temporary accommodation.

Thorpe Park also claims that installing the Snoozebox rooms will allow it to test demand for an on-site hotel before it begins full construction of the permanent hotel in late 2013 or early 2014. Sister parks Alton Towers, LEGOLAND Windsor and Chessington World of Adventures have all successfully opened hotels in recent years. If its revised plans are approved, the park hopes to open the hotel in 2015 or 2016, and to keep the Snoozebox rooms in place until then.

The temporary hotel will occupy reclaimed land close to the park's dome.
The site of the Snoozebox rooms is one of two identified as potential locations for a new roller coaster for the 2015 season. Thorpe Park's suggestion that the temporary hotel will remain in place until 2016 suggests that the other site, on an island close to the recently-opened The Swarm coaster, is the park's preferred option for the coaster.

According to its planning documents, Thorpe Park hopes that the addition of a hotel will enable it to extend its operating season. While much of the park is likely to continue to close during the winter, the restaurants in the park's dome and other select attractions may switch to year-round operations in order to support the hotel.

While i like the idea of year round themeparks even with reduced line ups i hate this idea to the bone - Merlin need to get a grip and fast.
Has the magic gone for me - yep almost!

I really dont see why thorpe park needs a hotel when its location means its very near to places to stay anyway, such as holiday inn or travel lodge! I dont think its target audience needs a hotel on site. Students paying £100 a night to stay in a tin can?! - I dont think so!!

Now if it was a tin can with a non stop night club...well then, that would suit the audience perfectly! LOL!

The thing that saddens me the most, is not that Merlin have taken their love of shipping containers to a ridiculous new level, but instead that this is probably our New for 2013 attraction....

Guys it has been proposed that vegenance 5d is coming to thorpe as well as the snooze box!! Shame it's second hand but I think it could be called swarm 5d! At least that means were not just stuck with a rubbish hotel!
At least the crash pad will have flat screen tvs!! It could turn out well  well maybe not....
Also this could mean ERT(early ride time) will be introduced for thorpe park! Annual pass holders and people staying at the hotel too! I would love ERT for the swarm and stealth!!

Locking Thorpe Parks target audience up in large shipping containers? Sounds like a win to me.

No,no,no,no!...

This is not what the park needs, a chav breading ground in the shape of shipping containers.

I want a nice classy, hotel to appeal to a larger group of people.
