Is Samurai moving?

Tue Nov 16, 2010 5:31 pm

For some time it has seemed that Samurai was going to get a re-theme to hit into the Saw island with the center bit been missing for ages now. and for those of you that have been the last few years you will now that it has been down alot more then it should be.

While being geeky and looking for a new fairground for my dream traveling fair I came across this.

http://www.ridetraders.com/ViewItems.aspx used rides page 6 of 16 2nd ride down

Top Scan-Space Model - Mondial (Ref: WK6011)

Travelling model, 20 metres by 20 metres, height 20 metres

And, the pics of it are of Samurai at Thorpe Park so is it bye bye or are they just using that picture, which is weird.

What you guys think will you miss Samurai if it goes ?

what would you like to see it replaced with ?

I can't see it going to be honest and I reckon the pictures are just put up to show the ride model off for other customers. Samurai's doing fine at Thorpe at the moment and is one of the most popular rides there, there's no real reason to remove it yet.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if it does go, with it being another ride on my endless list of rides I dislike. :P

Mitch, if you look though that site if they don't have a picture of that model they don't show it so why would they show that model?
I hope it does go, I for one cant stand the ride they run it on a bad setting even when its dead its still on a bad setting I for one hope it goes. :)

Similar speculation started up last year when a different Mondial Top Scan was sold on that website. I can assure you that it is not THORPE PARK's Samurai which is for sale, and that Samurai will be remaining at the park for the foreseeable future (by which I mean, at least next season). :)

Also, the centre piece going missing has absolutely nothing to do with the future of the ride! :P

It was removed to allow easier maintenance access. Remember when half of Ripsaw's theming went missing? It was done for the same reason. Nothing to worry about. It certainly will not be leaving.

Some sort of "retheme" would be great to see. However, Thorpe Park are actually abysmal at making flat rides themed. I would rather it got some creative work done with it in the first place, at the moment it is pretty much bare. Also, ditch the name, it isn't in Mystic East anymore... #-o

I always wish the original Zodiac was still around. That ride was beautiful even if it barely ran and wasn't very good.

Samurai isn't moving anywhere, not to worry. :)

Samurai for sale?

Wed Jan 18, 2012 9:57 pm

Just been looking online at a RideTrade website and on the Used Rides section I came across a TopScan, but the pictures are of Samurai.

Is it for sale?

I'm pretty sure, and hoping for, that they are generic pictures. If not then shame, it is a good ride.

Good spot CJH.

Beat me to it Sam.

Top Scans are immense but at a park like Thorpe they are rubbish.

I'd be pretty saddened if they removed it...

Even if it isn't always on a good programme, with Rush no longer what it was, I would say it is my favourite flat at Thorpe.

I'm sure this was brought up many months ago in a similar topic. It would be a shame if Samurai left as it's a decent thrill ride but I wouldn't worry unless there were genuine rumours milling about.

For some reason when me and John went to Thorpe in August, Samurai was running INSANE! Best ride in the park that day, by a long shot! No reply yet. :)

No. Samurai is not for sale.

Websites such as that tend to use any old pics of the ride type in question. Photos of Samurai are a common sight as it is one of the more well known Topscans.

I hope it isn't for sale, but those photos make it seem quite likely that it is.

I'd be pretty happy if PB bought it as I do like it, but I am living in dream world if I think that is ever going to happen.  :?

For further proof its not Samurai that is for sale check the listing itself.

"Traveling Model" - Samurai isn't
"Space Model" - It's got a space roller theme. A Mondial 'off the shelf' theme for Topscans on the fair circuit.

Fair enough, I guess it ends that rumour then.

It's much tamer than it used to be, it seems to swing to a much lower level (you used to be able to see right over the top at the top of a swing, easily, now it's a struggle). Also think it swings fewer times.
