I was under the impression they pumped a good bit of money into its maintenance last year? They'll let it run into the ground before they close it. I mean look at how bad Samurai got? We can only wait and see

Looks like it could be a good few months before Slammer stands any chance of reopening...

I really do wonder how much longer Slammer has left in it... Whilst it's a good ride and I enjoy it, I feel it's only a matter of time before Merlin decide they've had enough of its issues and remove it. Which to me will be a pretty sad moment since it's been the only one of its kind left since Six Flags New England removed theirs in 2012.

New for 2018 at Thorpe Park: an upcharge HB Leisure Meltdown to replace Slammer (opening March May June "summer")!

I think that would be the killer for me if it went. In reality, Slammer is unlikely to be replaced with anything at all, let alone anyting quite as unique and enjoyable. I love Slammer and it would hurt to see it go in any case, but I can accept that it's on its last legs, but I'd just really want it to be replaced by something wacky and exciting, which we probably wouldn't see.

With that in mind, I really want to see it back in health ASAP.

Logger's Leap - area under development. Returning 2017 soon.
(The ride now appears to have been left rotting).

Slammer - Returning summer soon.
(...)

This said, we did have a scare back in 2012/13 where it went down for an entire year and then came back. Fingers crossed I guess.

Thorpe need to cut their losses and just get rid of Slammer.

It's day is long overdue. I understand they may want to keep it because of its uniqueness but it's nackered.

I must agree. It is now down more than it is open.

In an ideal world, the removal of Slammer would allow more development opportunities for Old Town!

I hope they don't do a Towers and just grass over it or replace it with a blow up pay stall.

That's promising.

I mean, that's what we got told with Submission, Ripsaw, Loggers ... (need I go on?), but it's something.

Personally, I'm absolutely gutted to lose Slammer. Say what you like about its reliability, but I, as a local, was generally able to get a fair few rides in on it per season. To have lost the last Sky Swat is truly saddening, as they were almost undisputedly excellent rides.

Old Town and the surrounding area really is weak now!

Its a weird one. I'm gutted its gone, but at the same time i'm not that bothered by the news. I hope and pray that they actually replace it with something worth while.

It's not a big name thrill ride of course, but I still enjoyed it. I hope they put something worth while in its place, but it's never going to be a big draw by itself.
