Awful. Working with the Lo-Q system is quite poor.

Plus for london eye, the amount of time that the queues will be longer than a pretty acceptable 15mins during that trial period.. is.. well a few days in half term.

London Eye open 'til midnight

by nickhutson » Sat Jul 07, 2012 2:09 pm

For the olympics... let's hope they can incorporate it to be all summer (or at all peak times)

It would be pointless it being open till midnight that often, it is REALLY empty from the evening theatre performances onwards really... Still get people going on it at 9:30/10 (whenever it normally closes) but nowhere near enough to justify it outside of the Olympics...

This is partly due to EDF being a major sponsor for The Olympics and they're going to have a lot of competitors and organisers going on it as well as visitors/tourists. It won't become perminant because it's not needed to, it already runs til 9:30 and that's late enough really. I was down there tonight between 9/9:30 and there were few people on it.

The Coca-Cola Eye

by CJH » Tue Jan 20, 2015 7:11 pm

So the re-brand of the Eye which not too long ago had an EDF Energy branding is getting heavily criticised.
Do you feel this is the right branding?

That article voices a good point, but i don't see why it would encourage people to drink Coca Cola. Everyone knows that brands sponsor things and it doesn't mean people go out of their way to buy the product. As i haven't witnessed the sponsorship directly i can't really comment on it. But i do think the red colour is a bit bright and over powering.

That's a bit over dramatic and it is not supporting 'full sugar coca cola instead of diet coke' the company is called coca cola!

Coke doesn't need more limelight. It's a good and popular drink that can't get any bigger. Or, is this saying that Merlin are gonna bring Coke as the Thorpe dark-ride IP...

A brand still needs to maintain its position in the market though. At the end of the day its up to parents if they want to buy the drink so there is still some element of control over what kids drink.

As with any other major brand, Coke wants to stay up a the top.
This is probably a good way of advertising Coke, but TBH I don't really think Coke needs much more marketing (much to TTh's point)

Very true Dan!

They used to do a lot of ride sponsorship too, but this seems to have died off.

The ones I can remember are...

Air = Cadbury Heros
Flume = Imperial Leather
Bubbleworks = Imperial Leather
Rumba Rapids = Ribena

Flume & Bubbleworks still are.

Tidal Wave = Dr. Pepper
Dragons Fury = Skips

Legoland = Lego!!!

I will start a topic on sponsored rides & attractions as it is quite interesting!! :D

The Imperial Leather sponsorship of both The Flume and Bubbleworks ended in 2009. Some elements of the theming are still present but all IL branding was removed.

As far as I know the sponsorship of Dragon's Fury has also ended despite being visible in the queueline.

Oh, I never knew that it had ended as they both have the theming still there (that's probably why!!). Thanks for telling me! :D

The Smiler was Krave.

Back on topic, I personally think walking along south bank and seeing the whole of the stretch lit red is extremely pretty and the eye looks fantastic!

Krave never sponsored The Smiler. A promotion was run in conjunction with the new attraction, just like Goodfellas Pizza.
