I first went to AT about 25 years ago, seems like a lifetime now! I remember watching Nemesis being built, looking into the hole being dug for Oblivion and proper firework displays (one of which I crewed on). It's a shame that the Beast and Beast 2 have gone but overall, a much better park now. I’m lucky in that I’ve been on many rides around the world and had some amazing days but the best will be this Friday. You see, this Friday is one I've been looking forward do for 9 years, 6 months. When my daughter was born, I setup a height chart on the kitchen wall with key heights marked. At the time, The Matterhorn had a 32” height limit so that was her first proper roller coaster. Then came 40” which meant pretty much everything in Disneyland. Her first trip on Space Mountain left her trembling and when she could speak again she just said “Again!”. She hated Tower of Terror but you can’t have everything! Next came 48” which meant California Screamin which she now worships. A bit later she hit The Big One and loved that too. But for all these years, there’s been the top mark, that of Alton Towers. She’s already black balled Smiler (which is a pain as I’m desperate to ride it) but will take Nemesis on. Interestingly, the height restrictions in the States for similar rides are lower, she could have ridden X at Six Flags 2 years ago (not that Mrs DLD would have allowed it). I know the look that will be on her face at the top of Oblivion and it will be worth the entrance fee alone.
So I’ll have a look around, help where I can and hope to throw up a report of a day bathed in sunshine and happy memories when we get back Friday night.
Cheers all! DLD
