I was there today and there was some interesting noises coming from the site as I was at the end of the river rapids. Wondered if they were testing out a sound system, however it seems a bit early for that. Sounded like some really decent music and theme soundings whatever it was!

That is so good to see! I surprised they have opened it so early, but I'm not complaining! Must mean most of what they need is onsite, at least until end of the season.

The path and surrounding foliage do need tidying up a bit, but I'm loving the look of the new buildings!

Doesn’t this mean that the alternative pathway has now been closed or is this staying open for the future?

Both pathways were still open when I was there last night.

A few shots from the reopened path last night although you cannot see much as they have uploaded in poor quality. :(

The lift hill looks rather cool behind the rapids in those shots!

I have to say I do like the theming of that maintenance shed from the walk back down Katanga Canton, however it does seem a bit empty and bland, like its a path then a building, is there a border or something there like for plants or for some form of scenery?

The current surface of the path is only temporary at the moment as it is still being used as access to the construction site during the day.

Yes - it is very much a construction site so don't take anything there as being finished. The park will need the extra route capacity for Fireworks crowds.
I believe that the temporary pathway behind the ride will be closed and used as a staff access route only - but we shall see!

Ah cheers, was quite confused about that, but that makes sense. Might hopefully be heading to Alton this weekend, dependant on what the Mrs decides.

Theme Park James over on his website has a large construction update from 29th October. One of the last updates we'll get before the closed season so head over there and take a look. here.

Could be just that, a maintenance building. I think I've said before but with it being a wooden coaster I'm not sure how maintenance bays work for those, I've not been on enough to fully know but with steel, you can do switch tracks to an outer building.

ITV news article on SW8
(Warning THAT incident is mentioned...)

It says Bradley Wayne is the 'creator' of SW8, much like John Wardley was(Just for marketing) with Th13teen and The Smiler.

And it confirmed a March 2018 opening, along with a few nice facts of the ride.

That entire article might as well be about the Smiler crash
