I like it, it's different. There is nothing like it in the park and I think the GP appreciate that. Remember that it was the enthusiasts that over-hyped the ride, not the average guest. It often still has at least a 10-15 minute queue when it's a busy day.

Yeah I always think of it fondly, it's a good break from all the adrenaline in FV and I know folks who have been terrified by it so it does the job on some peeps. :)

I would just like to comment that the updated restraint system is not too bad really. The bar is just a little higher on the thigh, there is a secondary bar to hold on to, and there are bendy rubber fins which point forwards and rest against your leg. You can still move about (and thrust forward when the back pokers poke you!) and it generally doesn't really detract from the experience that much. It is less forgiving if you are larger in size, as other people have mentioned, but overall isn't too bad.

It's a wonderful attraction. yes - it's a shame the actors are gone but it's still an adrenalin rush. The new smoke effect in the lift is good and it's great going on the ride with people who have no idea what's going to happen!

It always seems to be broken, though, so what do we make of this? I haven't seen it open at all when I've been this year, and I've been every week since may.

Its certailny been open since may. They keep closing it to make tweaks to the restraint system & to make the ride more cost effective.

I've been on sub terra once and it was a fun experience. When you don't know whats going to happen it's exciting. Though I did manage to go through the whole corridor at the end without noticing any of the actors around :lol

It would be cool if they added some animatronics, maybe some tentacles or something slithering into the roof of the lift.

One thing I didn't like was the design of the nemesis creature in the videos, I mean I know it's got crab-like claws and stuff but the one in the video was obviously just a giant crab... which isn't that scary...

Can you please elaborate on the new smoke effect?

I think it's new...

Anyway...

As the lights are out the whole lift fills with smoke so when the lights come on - it's really just hard to see anything!

Forgive me if this is not a new effect...

This clear's everything up about Nemesis: Sub Terra's new downtime. Some people speculated it was due to Scarefest but yes the ride is closed as its currently awaiting new designed restraints.

The attraction is awaiting replacement parts, which are specialist & therefore take a while to manufacture.

Didn't sub terra just recently get new restraints before it closed?? Or were they so uncomfortable that they've decided to replace them again. Anyway I hope there's more to the improvements. If like to see more scare effects at the end that don't require the costly actors. It's a shame because I like sub terra and think it has a lot of potential to be a good and unique ride in Alton towers ride line up but it just hasn't been expected properly. Love for them to improve it ready for SW8

For those of you who said they are trying to save money and nothing is actually happening and that they'll re-open it at Scarefest Alton Towers responded today saying its unlikely to be open for Scarefest.

Hi Dan, Sub Terra is unlikely to be open during Scarefest, apologies.

That's a shame, what was wrong with the old restraints anyway?

They wouldn't always lock Sawboss given the new design. The only time I've ridden it since it re-opened with the new restraints and the ride hosts tried they're up most to lock one side but 3 larger people had to be asked to leave the ride.

I mean the old old restraints, why did they need an update anyway?

Apparently if you had a larger guest next to a youngish person who's quite thin then on the drop they got thrown about a bit, that I believe was why they were re-designed.

Aah ok, I suppose the harnesses must be a bit different to a standard drop tower.

Just emailed Alton. They told me it is having seasonal maintenance.
Erm, change of plan, I prefer The Smiler. Rita's rubbish. Should have thought of that...

Scarefest 2016 hype is all gone... all because of Stan.H.
