The Haunted House was a benchmark for UK Dark Rides as Nemesis was a benchmark for UK rollercoasters. Throughout the ride a grim atmosphere surrounded it and the music added much too the whole auroa of the place.
The shocks were brillantly timed, as any first time riders would be in for several shocks and The giant spider has scared more guests than the Oblivion drop.

Duel is inferior to The Haunted House because it lost it's own essence. HH's essence was to scare and now it's shooting gallery, also the zombie finale is unforgiveable.

I think Duel has completly spoilt the haunted house and how tacky does that Zombie outside look!!! - It looks like something from Blackpool Pleasure Beach not Alton Towers!!!

It would have been good if they did something like 'Pasaaj del Terror' at Blackpool that would've beem amazing - Its just something you would find at Chessington now!

The pictures on the wall used to be quite freaky before too. With it now bein more of a 'family' attraction the portraits are more comicy than haunted which again ruins the concept of it being a haunted house !

I preferred the old haunted house i first went on this ride when i was 10 i remember the the smell in the entrance hall it almost smelt like poison and the skeleton man that switched the lights off before you continued the rest of the ride i reckon they should have left that part it was scary as anything for me when i was 10 it is not the same as i remember it now they have re - themed it to Duel.

Come on Alton Towers bring back the old haunted house it was much better than duel.

i loved this ride before it was changed to Duel i remember i went on this ride when i was little and it broke down under that big spider i was so scared. But now that the ride has changed to Duel everything looks fake and is not as scary as before. and in my oppinion it should have been left the way it was.

HH wasn't getting the recognition it deserved by visitors so AT decided to stick a few lights around the place, some blasters, a cheesy zombie outside and a crappy zombie theme inside (most of them are so laughable to look at, it's not funny) and that would make it a well loved ride. But instead it made it look just stupid.

I remember the original HH when it first opened in 1992. I was only 5 and even the outside of the house scared me. The music was chilling, the gravestone let your imagination run wild (unlike now with steptoe and his gun), people used to come running out after just entering because The Drawing room was too much for them.

I went on with my cousin and it was a truly terrifying experience. The Drawing room set the scene, with the girl singing in the doll house, the face in the fire, severed hand twitching in the jar and the book turning on its own. The girl in the doll house scared me the most with her tune.

I can't remember much of the ride. I had my eyes closed most of the way around. I can just remember the Giant, The man standing next to the coffin with the ghost flying out (still there but does nothing now), :x The witch at the end and the dragon. Wish I had kept my eyes open and seen it all.

Went in again in 2002 a year before Duel arrived. I kept my eyes open for most of the ride but I still had moments where I hid my face in my friends. Things had changed then. The Giant had dissapeared as had many other things from 1992. Every year it was an experience because you forgot what to expect or somthing has been replaced or changed. It really was a spooky ride.

Then 2003 came and so did Duel [-X I had high expectations that it would be scarier than the haunted house but left mad because they ruined what was the uks number one HH. I hate the zombie part, its just nonsense. I hate how the lights and guns have ruined the scary atmosphere. To cut things short, I hate duel. The only part that still scares me is the spider room... That spider lunging over the carriage gives me the creeps and I still hide my face when I know it's coming.

The Haunted House lasted just 10 years before they changed the theme and name from ghosts to zombies (haha, I've seen scarier women when I've woke up with a hangover) and HH to Duel. Lets hope they change it back before 2013 when it makes Duel 10 years old.

Alton Towers need to re theme Duel again. Firstly by changing it back into a Haunted House. Secondly by throwing all those cheap zombies in the nearest dumpster they can find and replacing them with ghosts (which when you think about it, a Haunted House is all about... not zombies). And thirdly, bring back what it was originally created to do... scare people [-o<
