Heave Ho is Alton Towers' newest ride and opened in Mutiny Bay on Easter Weekend 2008.
Located in Mutiny Bay, as for the rest of the area, you'd expect Heave Ho to continue the trend of well themed rides with good music. Heave Ho, unfortunately, only ticks one of these boxes.
The ride itself is as expected from a typical Rocking Tug ride. It's gentle, but there's an element of fun - and for the audience that it's supposed to attract, it's going to be perfect. There is also excellent audio for the ride, which consists of a variation on the Mutiny Bay theme and some "Heave Ho, off we go" chanting, which is a nice touch.
Unfortunately, the ride sticks out like a sore thumb from the rest of Mutiny Bay. The base of the ride is a garish blue colour, and given that there is no other use of blue in the entire area, this makes it really over the top. In addition, there is simply a bland gravel pit around the ride, rather than a more visually satisfying base - which could also consist of some themed debris. I am starting to wonder if Rocking Tug's are actually possible to theme well - given that the Longboat Invader at Legoland Windsor (their new Rocking Tug) actually looks even worse than Heave Ho!
Whilst Battle Galleons, Marauder's Mayhem, the show and the games units cannot be faulted, in its present state, Heave Ho is unfortunately an adequate ride - presented rather poorly. I hope it is improved!
