A very pleasent Hotel, rooms were very clean and tidy and ergonaomically sound. However I have problems with the price of food at the Hotel, this is a subject which i personally feels needs addressing. Another thing is the lack of entertainment over the winter months! I was shocked to discover there was none, isnt the winter when all the entertainment should be on as it is when the park is not open!

Splash Landings Hotel/Cariba Creek tips
Post Posted: Mon 5th Sep 2005 6:30
We've just come back from a one night stay at SL Hotel with use of Cariba Creek (we didn't go to rides) & hope the following tips might help people planning a stay there!

THINGS WE WISH WE HAD KNOWN:

    - if you have travelled far & you are bursting for the loo go in a field before you enter resort as we got stuck in a car queue (12.00 Saturday) for 1/2 an hour.(When we left on Sunday at 12.00 there wasn't a queue coming in.)

    - bring a picnic lunch on first day - you can eat it in the beautiful garden of Cariba Creek (plenty of space, chairs, grass) or inside around the pool or there is plenty of room in the hotel lobby. Quenchers cafe is small & hugely overpriced (2 packs crisps,1 water,1 coke = £4.50!)

    - bring a hairdryer

    - bring a teatime snack especially if you have kids & make use of the Family Rooms on each floor where you have free access to a fridge, microwave, iron, drying machine (fantastic for towels at end of day).My husband thinks there was a washing machine as well. Also bring choc powder & milk for calming hot chocolate at night!

    - restaurants are very expensive so we drove to Meir & had takeaway Pizza Hut - there is also a sit down Pizza Hut up the road.We met a man at the hotel later who told us that you can get pizza/curry delivered to the hotel (sorry, didn't get name of company)

    - the Alton Towers complex is in the middle of nowhere so do bring extra food & use the Family Rooms for heating it etc- there is a small supermarket in Alton

    - in the evening we went to look at the Alton Towers Hotel - it has a much smarter/spacious feel to it

    - Cariba Creek is fab. The best time was between 9am-10am when it is exclusively for the hotel guests - we had an hours worth of the Master Blaster with no queuing!!During the day we had to queue for approx 20 mins. - we didn't have to queue for any other rides/slides.

I hope this is helpful - we had a great time but would probably stay in a nearby hotel next time & use the water park during the day as we didn't really feel we got our money's worth for the price we paid for the hotel.

Every year we go to AT and stay in the hotel for 3 nights, last few times we have stayed in Splash Landings but I prefer Alton Towers hotel.

The children love Splash Landings and I have to admit we have a blast there as well. I do agree with others though that the food is very expensive but that wouldnt stop me eating there and i wouldnt go anywhere else to eat. For us it is a long weekend break and we count the cost of the food etc into our stay.

I would take your own towels though paying for the hire of thier towels is a bit much (either that or use the hotel room towels!)

The water shoots are good fun, we go in october so there is never really a queue.

The staff are friendly.

All in all we look forward to our annual trip to AT, Splash Landings is the icing on top of the cake for us and fills the evenings up nicely!

Lauzi: Symone, please try and improve your s+g :)

Tropical Paradise

Until I can afford to travel to the Caribbean this place will have to do.

During all my visits to the Splash Landings Hotel (7 times during 2005) I have never been disappointed, the rooms have always been clean, the staff have been friendly, and the experience has been great.

The entertainment at night times isn't great, although the bar is a nice place to chill out in during the summer. If it's your only visit though you must go to the atrium in the Alton Towers Hotel.

If you can find special deals (normally printed in papers etc) you can get rooms from as little as £99 for 4 people.

The only criticisms are that the buffet is expensive for people who do not want to eat an awful lot.

Highly Recomended

EDIT - the bedrooms are also smaller than those found in the Alton Towers Hotel.

Spotlessy clean and great views of the waterpark. Amazing themeing and a fun, spicy atmosphere. Colourful and vibrant this place rocks!

A very nice bar, with some strange c0cktails and Flambos food is tasty and the service is great.

Always pleasant in there, although i found it abit dark.

Going to go against the grain here.

We just travelled from South Africa for a holiday at Alton Towers. We stayed at Splash Landings.

What a joke.

Rooms are tiny. We had to live out of our suit cases (2 adults, 2 kids). You are provided with 4 coat hangers and a small shelf.for a room that sleeps 4.

Hugely over priced.

I would be ashamed to even attempt to serve food of such poor quality and such high prices. Even the "inclusive" breakfast was so bad none of us would eat it.

Don't even consider eating inside Carriba Creak. A small choice of prepackaged items in a fridge and very expensive.

It's a pity. Carriba Creak and Alton Towers are really great world class entertainment and are hugely let down by the two poor quality over priced hotels.

Rather book into a decent B & B in the area (we will next time) and make the short trip into Stoke-on-trent for dinner each night. We did, and there are some really great well priced restaurants in the "cultural quarter".

I travel the world a lot, and these two hotels really are bad and need to be examined closely.

Loved it :D I think it's a great theme hotel that has a very nice atmosphere. The entrance to the hotel is very cool with the water fountain (great place for a photo) and then your on into the wacky reception will umbrellas hanging from the roof. Check in was nice and easy and what a view of Cariba creek you can get from the bar area and reception.

The rooms were a decent size i though and there was plenty of towels stocked in the bathroom, 10 i think i counted for a one night stay. Loved the pineapple lampshade as well. Only thing that was wrong with my room was the TV remote was missing and the kettle never stopped boiling  instead it started to melt a little lol.

Flambos is extremely over priced but the food was really nice. I think for nearly £20 you should at least get one drink with your meal. The bar was great i though playing music till around 2-3 in the morning.

I didn’t eat breakfast as i was up till 2 and decided to have an extra hour in my big double bed :)

Overall I loved the hotel and I’m currently planning to return for 2 nights this summer.

:D

I love Splash Landings in spite of many things. I don't usually like to worry about money (even though I haven't got much), instead I just prefer to get on with it and make as much of it as I can, simply because I love the place.

Theming and attention to detail in this Hotel is fantastic - the place has a brilliant ambience and really comes alive at night with clever and pretty lighting.

Love the carpets and the lifts. :) Ma Garritas is fantastic, although very expensive. The bar seems to stay open till at least 1am, which is great. Nice little patio outside with wooden decking and lots of chairs. Ample seating, lovely atmosphere. Some meals are served until about 6pm I believe - they are overpriced, but yummy.

Flambo's isn't run as a posh restaurant as it should be - some staff are nice, some are a bit cold and the operation that comes off to get people in and out is painfully obvious - which to an extent can't be helped, but you're not treated as if you've just paid £19 for a mediocre meal. There's a lot of choice, but food often is left to go cold and is not replenished often enough. I don't like leaving the hotel to eat elsewhere in the area because I've not paid a large amount of money to be out of the hotel for half the time it matters - which I suppose is exactly what AT intended - so I either stock up at Lidl round the back of Hotel Colosseo before I check in, or try eat at Ma Garritas before they sneakily stop serving food stupidly early.

The rooms: Very small, are little more than a pimped up Travelodge. Decor is. . .interesting , but nothing offensive and it's a nice change. However, the last two times I've stayed there, stuff has been missing from the rooms like the TV keyboard and remote control, the bath has been 1/4 full of water etc etc - not what's expected after you've paid a lot of money.

If you're particularly picky, pedantic and/or monitor what every penny of your money is spent on, then this is not the Hotel for you.
If, like me, you're happy to gloss over small annoyances because they don't really bother or effect you, then this place is great - I do love staying there. Of course, I'm not saying it's acceptable to be charged extortionate prices for mediocre service and goods, and to have things missing out of your small room, but generally the positives outweigh the negatives and I'm the kind of fool Alton Towers can take for a ride every time simply because I'm a fangirl and turn a blind eye when I shouldn't. :P

VERDICT: Certain things AT could do A LOT better on, but I just love the place, makes you feel like you're on holiday.

Splash Landings Hotel
Post Posted: Mon 7th Aug 2006 23:44
Every year my girlfriend and I go to Splash Landings Hotel and we really enjoying. An Excellent break! We go probably about 3 times a year and stay for 1 or 2 nights depending on time of year. I have no complaints about the hotel but think you should get a reduced rate if there is only 2 adults and no children, but thats probably me being biased as I have no children!
The rooms are not huge but are bright and cheery with a fun beach theme, with the whole hotel decorated in a similar style.
Ma'garrita's bar is situated on the top floor of the hotel, facing reception and is the ideal way to relax, with a drink, overlooking the famous Cariba Creek!
Cariba Creek itself is amazing, and takes your breath away the moment you enter, wondering where you're going to head first. My personal favourite is the Master Blaster, my only grumble being the queues, but then again it is the most popular ride. My girlfriends fave is the flash flood (also known as 'the outside slides') but it did take us staying at the hotel twice before we managed to figure out how to get to them! :-?
As for evening entertainment you're best heading to the Alton Towers Hotel Atrium where you're entertained by the funniest and fabulous Tanya and Di cK ie.
If you're thinking about going and never been I would thoroughly recomend it. Just bring a bit extra for meals as the restaurants are more expensive than you would think. Other than that, it's worth every penny, and as veterans (we've been going since it opened!) I can safely assure you you'll have a great time! :D

I went to this Hotel in Half term for 1 night with 1 adult, 2 teenagers, a 10 yr old and a toddler 18 months. We had a brilliant time, kids did not want to come home. looking at the prices now it seems we got a good deal so value for money aslo. We paid £209 for 5 of us including 2 full days in the waterpark.
The staff are extremely helpful, entertainment kind of like butlins/haven holidays in the evening, drinks expensive but just changed from wine to lager to compensate.

Flambe's Feast restaurant: Build up an appetite so you get your moneys worth, £19 for adults £13 for teens £7 for child and £3 for toddlers, Theres is loads of choice italian, mexican, vegitarian, hotdogs, sunday roast, and more.
Leave room for desserts they have melon, grapes, strawberries, fudge, marshmallows, turkish delights, and more and an enormous buckeyfull of hot chocolate sauce to pour over. KIDS loved it was a real treat. worth the money by the time you add up if you went elsewhere they would want dessert etc so would not cost much less than this place.

I would highly reccommend it am already trying to plan a longer visit but as a single parent I need to catch the bargains as i think the same holiday would cost about £170 more at normal rates, probably not in my budget. can go to spain for 2 weeks not much more.

If you can save up your kids will remember this holiday forever!!

Time to put a few things right about Splash Hotel.
Just returned from a 3 night break (june). I read all the reviews about the prices etc and admit that I was abit worried about the prices. However I was not surprised to find that the cost of things is on par with what you would pay else where. I.E Flambos, you pay £18.95 for an adult buffet without drinks, to me that is on par with what you would pay for a 3 course in a restaurant. The drinks are no more exspensive than having a night out on the town. Ma Garittas bar on the other hand, the drinks as above were fine, however the price for a snack is a bit heavy.
The rooms and service were top notch, some people have said that the rooms look tired, wake up! they are meant too look tired thats the theme of the hotel. If anyone has been to the caribbean they will understand.
As for the water park, small it may be and costly if you don't buy your tickets in advance. But a brill laugh, you can easily spend the day sipping cocktails and downing beer on a nice sunny day. I got a good discount on the price and it was well worth it, Will be going back even with the 5 hour drive to get there, this time I will try Alton Towers Hotel.

This hotel is very well themed and has a grate atmosphere to it. The staff are very friendly and there is plenty to do with the water park being in the same building, the theme park being a short walk away, and the new extraordinary golf rite next door.

The bad points of this hotel are the choice of rooms. They do not have much choice and you are basically stuck with a room with a double bed and buck bed. There are no double or twin rooms. The rooms their selves are quite good, clean, contains the essentials, look good, and our room had a decent view of the water park. Also, it is quite an expensive hotel to stay at, and the food is extortionately priced.

The lifts in the hotel made us laugh every time we had to use them, and we found ourselves dancing in the lifts and humming the tune all day.

Overall, the hotel provides a pleasant and fun stay, but is quite overpriced.

7/10

:D Here is my very long review of the place, which i alse put on trip advisor, to make people aware of how good the place was -

"A Truly Magical Night Away"

Aware that check in was after 3pm, we planned our journey so that we arrived at about 4:30pm, which would give us enough time to have a few hours in the waterpark that night. All of us are incredibly frequent visitors to the theme park, as we all live quite close to the resort and own annual passes, however we had never stopped over at the hotels and took up a special offer from the website for the carribean beach party weekend - £99 for one night. Although this was great value, we were rather worried at what we would expect, after reading some awful reviews on here about the hotel(s). Our experience, was the complete opposite to this - and here goes...

After a long walk from the bus stop at the park entrance, we arrived at the hotel to be greeted by an incredible friendly receptionist, who gave us our tickets to the waterpark, room key and explained everything about the restaurants and hotels etc to us. We were directed to our rooms via the amazing lifts which play some quirky music to you whenever you go in them. Our room was right at the begining of the corridoor and we were a bit worried about noise in the night, however this wasnt a problem. The room, wasnt the biggest in the world, but it was too small either. Everything in there was spotlessly clean, including the well decorated bathroom. We were given complimentary shower gels (in the shape of fish) and soap etc, all of which we found pleasant. I think it was fair to say the beds wernt very comfortable, but this neither wasnt a problem, as i slept very well. The walls are quite thin in this hotel as you can hear children running along the corridoors quite loudly from your room, but obviously this died of later on, after they have gone bed. We unpacked our belongings and headed down to the waterpark, which was really quite quiet, and we got on all the rides, with minimal queueing, which was great, as i know it can get exceptionally busy. The waterpark is very clean and well kept considering the volume of guests using it and its facilities, however im not much for the changing rooms as there simply isnt enough lockers and cubicles for the amount of people, and i realy think this needs to be sorted out, as i could see many guests were getting quite frustrated. Anyway, more on that later, as our friday visit we didnt have any problems. We got changed when the waterpark closed and headed back to our room. Having taken our own sandwiches up, we decided against eating at the hotels, which was quite pricey - £17 for a buffet in flambos and also quite expensive at the secret garden restaurant over at the Alton Towers Hotel. After about an hour of relaxing in the room, we decided to head over the the Alton Towers Hotel, which was probrably the highlight of the trip. The whole atmosphere in both hotels at night was amazing, and the evening was what made the trip so incredibly memorable and magical. We arrived after the long walk over throught the endless but very well decorated and quirk corridoors, and over the walkway through the now closed and roasting hot waterpark. The whole atrium area of the Alton Towers Hotel is amazing, and was full of people drinking and relaxing. We headed into the garden outside, which was amazing as there was some trees covered in lights, some gazebos, stepping stones and fountains etc, which all looked stunning at night. Back in the hotel, the lifts at this hotel are amazing, with flashing lights and the nemesis music being played. There was a singer on, which was very loud, but brilliant. After the singer, there was a disco on in both hotels. We decided to head to our bedroom, and watched tv until quite late, before finally going bed.

The next day, we woke up and chose to head over the the secret garden restaurant at the Alton Towers Hotel for breakfast. We went quite early, as we knew there would be large queues later on, and we wernt wrong. The breakfast was superb, with all you can eat freshly cooked hot items, and cereal, fruit, muffins etc. We could not fault this at all. We gathered our belongings after returning to splash landings, and checked out. Because we wernt leaving just yet, we left our bags with the ported, who stored them away safely for us, while we went back into the waterpark. We only spent about 30 minutes in there as it was so unbearably busy, and headed upto ma garritas bar, as sat in there for a few hours. The drinks are quite pricy here, but not awfully bad. A large glass of coke was £1.85, which is just above average, but perfectly acceptable. Ma garritas has a nice view over the waterpark, and we spent about 4 hours sitting in there, whilst waiting for some more of my friends who chose to stay in the waterpark. After this, we collected our bags, and went home.

To conclude, this was probrably one of the best nights away/out i have ever had, and i will not forget it for a long time. Both hotels have a brilliant happy atmosphere about them, and are full of families having a good time. Also, both hotels are spotlessly clean - (rooms and public areas), and have brilliant staff, who really seem to enjoy there jobs and make you feel really welcome. Sadly we cannot comment on the evening food, but the breakfast was superb. The evening was what really made the trip magical and truly memorable, and all of us agreed that we cannot wait to stay over there again, and are planning to go back again this weekend as we enjoyed it so much, but it doesnt look like we can afford it sadly.

Wed Give the Place A 10/10
