Re: The Smiler - Speculation

We all know a certain family has objected to Oblivion on numerous occasions, and in all honesty I expect them to kick up a fuss again over this ride. I must admit I was slightly surprised at the location of the biggest thrill ride the park has built for a decade due to the run ins with the Ropers! ...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

They could, technically, build the ride as tall / high as they wanted to. My understanding is that the ride itself is in the area covered by a GDO (general development order) and as such requires no planning permission. However, out of kindness Alton provided a set of images demonstrating the high p...

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (**contains spoilers**)

not yet ridden NST, but the changes sound great. Wonder if they could add another screen to the final lifts to help aid the narrative. I know a lot is going on during the "ascent", but 10 seconds of "emergency escape: decontamination zone" flashing on a screen just before you exi...

Re: How busy will it be? 2011

Hey! Does anyone know how busy the park will be tomorrow? Not sure what dates Easter lies on this year, so unsure as to whether it will be heaving or empty!

Re: Th13teen - Ride discussion [SPOILERS TOPIC]

Must add that I hardly felt the trim brakes today. In comparison to a couple of weeks ago, there was no sensation of slowing down at all. Im comparing like for like seats - both at the front. Might have just been me though!

Re: Alton Towers Birthday: 80's Concert - 23rd May 2010

Towers street looks brilliant. The cake is a brilliant centrepiece sitting in front of the Towers, and the coloured flags are everywhere. Also, not sure if this has been up all year, but the entrance tower that normally has the Alton Towers sign on has had a giant pink and yellow bow with 30 on. Did...

Re: Th13teen - Ride discussion [SPOILERS TOPIC]

Thirteen was running on near full capacity today which really surpised me! It was only towards the end of the day that the last car of each train was shut off.

Perhaps they've found a better way of solving the problem?

Re: Th13teen - Ride discussion [SPOILERS TOPIC]

Got my first go on Thirteen today :) Personally I loved the ride - the indoor section was brilliant, and although short, the outdoor section was good for the area they had. I did come away feeling like something was missing - but I havent got a clue what! I don't know if its the story not quite tyin...

Re: Th13teen - Ride discussion [SPOILERS TOPIC]

At least they're still working on the problem and looking for solutions. Exciting to hear that, potentially, the trim brakes could be removed too!

Side note for Dave - serious problems resulting in the ride being closed? Or was it still open to the public?

Re: Help! Problem I can't work out!

Been waiting for a medical related problem on here for a while! As Jon said, nearly all of grey outs/black outs are caused by a drop in your blood pressure. When you move from a standing to a lying postion (and vice versa), the blood in your body shifts around under gravity. "Normally" (ev...

Re: Congo River Rapids

... in fact harnesses should be added to all Rapids rides. I dont think that such an extreme measure is needed - its not the ride that is dangerous, its the prat that jumped in that is. There isn't any need for harnesses as 99.5% of the people that go on the ride abide by the rules and are at no ri...

Re: 2010 Park Map

A little off post, I realise, but those maps show how poor the 2005 map was! It was awful!

I'm hoping they stick with this style for one more year, and then change it. Dont want to let it get too stale, but this current design works well for now.

Re: Ug Land / Rita 2010

Having seen (just) the four pictures, I must admit that I'm pretty impressed whats going on. A couple of years ago, with the past management, they would have juxtaposed two rollercoasters with massively contrasting themes - Rita itself is an example of this. Now, however, we're seeing an effort by t...

Re: SW6 / Thirteen - Ride & Construction discussion.

After seeing this pic, i have to agree, AT are really being conscious on spending their money for the ride, and not so much on the theming, same old AT eh? :P You weren't expecting them to build the building out of anything other than themed plywood were you? A building of this size would t...

Re: SW6 / Thirteen - Ride & Construction discussion.

Since placing the tree in the video, more "branches" have been added to the top to make it about 14m high. I imagine that there will be branches spiralling around the station building giving it its 14m length.

Interesting associations though with those pictures. Hopefully this is a good sign that the new building will be as blended into the existing Towers as well as possible.

Re: SW6 Ride & Construction discussion.

The train exits on a flat piece of track, however the tilt section when tilted would mean there is a sharp angle where they connect, which would be impossible (and very uncomfortable!) for a train to traverse! I dont think that any of those suggesting a "tilt" mechanism expect the track t...
