Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Environmental Health  No objection subject to conditions. Confirms that the potential areas of environmental concern to be demolition works, construction works and the actual operation of the rollercoaster. Advises that the proposed ride is a similar type to the ‘Saw’ at Thorpe Park and is mad...

Re: Covered Entrance Plaza?

Well, this photo from the TT is cited as 1989 so the canopies were in place prior to the 1990s but I think that first photo is from around 1992. :)

Not yet. They still need planning permission to demolish the structure.

Re: Fairground Location

The 'Amusment Park' is shown on this 1961 map as #29. It seems to roughly in the Fountain Square/CCL area. However, I don't think think the Talbot Centre (Dark Forest) area was created until the 1970s.

Re: Splash Landings Hotel & C.C Waterpark - Right Name?

I assume Calypso Springs sounded too similar to Disney’s Calypso Cay Resort in Florida, hence the change of name. However, I must admit that I’ve always found the name Splash Landings strange for a hotel and think it would have been better suited to the waterpark.

Re: Alton Towers Marketing/PR Stunts Topic

The funny coincidence with this Houdini stunt is when it said it was to commenerate Houdini's 137th birthday I instantly thought thats the random sort of thing Google would would celebrate. And sure enough, they did! I must have had a premonition! http://i54.tinypic.com/2wmqu6w.jpg

Re: New Steak House coming to ATH!

My understanding is that the room will continue to be made available for conferences even though its a restuarant so that could partly explain why it won't be open all of the time. Also, there probably isn't enough demand for it. To anybody who hasn't seen what the room looked like before the themin...

Re: The Blackpool Tower Dungeons

Here's a bit of info on the layout of the attraction, which should clear things up. Building work on the Dungeon is due to begin in November when Merlin takes over from Leisure Parcs, with the "horrible" history attraction due to open in September 2011. The Aquarium and Jurassic Walk will ...

Re: How much do you think it would cost to buy Alton Towers?

Well, I think Tussuads bought the park for £60m in 1990. Since then there has been huge investment including two hotels and several major rides so should be significantly more than that now...

Re: Harry Potter theme park for UK

The London Standard have just revealed similar details. It sounds more like a studio tour than a 'theme park' though.

Re: Some questions to ask.

What is going to be done with the corkscrews that were said to be kept. They are being reconstructed at the entrance booths ( see this version of the map ) as an artwork feature and some of the scrap metal was used to make a piece of tree theming for Thirteen. What did they do with the monorail and...

Basically it was behind the main bulk of Cloud Cuckoo Land click here. Also, this is the location where the Secret Weapon delivery was filmed.
