Re: The Smiler - Marketing [May Contain Spoilers]

Hello - noticed a new Follower on my Twitter account, which led to a video... Not sure if it's fan made or official. Looks good though - and there's some cool touches.  Looks also, like this is the first of a series?  The video is here:  http://youtu.be/xDC9JHoIXPQ and the Twitter acc...

Re: From Festival Park to Dark Forest

I'm very lucky to have memories of that themed area pre-Festival Park, and to me, Festival Park is THE area - yes 'area' - to beat all at Towers. From Talbot Centre the area developed into Festival Park, and this is something that to this day I judge Alton Towers on.  I said it in the Customer ...

Re: 2012: Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs – The 4-D Experience

Clicked the 2012 Alton Towers link... clicked on the link for the New Ice Age rooms... thought, I'll try to book, and see how much they are. The link sends you to the normal hotel booking site, and abandons you as a normal booking.  typical.  Advertise the rooms available for booking, but ...

Re: Submission & Enterprise: Closed (SBNO) for 2012

I personally think this is very lazy of them... 'Yes' they've made the decision, and it's 'tough' really, but I see no reason for Enterprise not being relocated.  It's a basic basic basic flat ride - easily relocated surely.  Surely so many locations in which it could sit. Submission - I i...

Towers TV advertising

Just read this interesting article. Seems a bit peculiar as they kind of jarr with the current Towers branding, but... "A trio of CheethamBell JWT commercials are featuring in Alton Towers’ latest television campaign, which hits the screens next week. CBJWT held the Alton Towers account for 12 ...

Re: The Gardens?

I recall queuing for the Black Hole in the mid-80s and it NEVER had 4.5hour queues. Even when it had a much-longer queueline than exists today.

Re: 2011: The Honest Truth

Interestingly, I was watching one of Barryzola's promotional videos the other day, think it was 1987's, and in part it mentioned something like 'you pay one price, and that's it, everything is within that price' . Sure, retail and catering was not included, but that was it. Mini golf (admittedly in ...

Re: The Gardens?

Yeah, I was completely and utterly against any idea of the cross valley woodie, even if it didnt technically go within the gardens. Also, perhaps people don't go to the Towers for the gardens/ruins anymore, and that was my point. Consumers have changed now, and perhaps because of how much it costs t...

Re: The Gardens?

A couple of comments... Back in the 80s when we visited Alton Towers, we would generally ride the rides and visit the attractions, then, at ride close, we would wander the estate, stroll around the gardens, upto Ingestre Courtyard (pre Towers Street, where the main shops were) and then slowly walk t...

Re: Rita - Shorter Straps HELP!

I find this really worrying, which is also sad. I'm a bigger built guy anyhow, but have never really had a problem with Rita. Oblivion, yes, Rita no. Really disappointed about this. Saying that, tried to ride RC at Disneyland Paris. When I couldnt fasten the belt on that, I was unceremoniously told ...

Re: Hex: Just who is Damian Varley?

That's really sad about Damien. I did know that he was Estates and Maintenance Manager. Like Les, they were pretty much made to do the Hex video. I recall speaking with Les about it, and he hated having to do it. I assume, like Les, Damien was removed as part of the 2004 redundancies. Nonetheless, i...

Re: Fountain Square Development

I believe that the view down Towers Street is actually protected... Dont know if that would affect planning for a fountain at the bottom.

Also, I would take a guess that the Fountain Square fountain would be protected.

Even now, Around the World in Eighty Days' entrance looks better than Charlie's! Bring back Around the World or Toyland Toys!

Chessington - 1990 article

I've had a little clear-out recently, and came across an article about the development of Transylvania at Chessington. Thought I'd share it. It had a couple of interesting images too - not sure how to upload them, so may share via my Twitter account @mathmosman Hope you enjoy the article: CHESSINGTO...

Re: Towers conservatory Works

The Towers ruins used to contain offices. The archive also used to be in there. If you enter from X-Sector's servants door, you used to take a right-hand door off that corridor to get to the offices.

Re: Alton Towers: What Ever Happened To?

I imagine it dates back to the early eighties.

At that time, rides such as Enterprise, Ferris Wheel and 1001 Nights were in those areas, and I think some of them were much higher. I guess that they were also painted green simply to make them blend in more.

1987 and 1988 Gate Maps

I've just been having a browse through some of my Alton Towers items, looking to see if there's anything good for eBay (which there is, but this isn't a shameless plug)... Just noted some interesting things from the two gate brochures. Interestingly if you think the 2011 map is bad, you should see t...

Re: The Concept Art of Alton Towers

Technically not Towers, but I once met Glen Earlam at CWoA, and he had a large piece of concept art showing the Nemesis Inferno train against a red background - didnt get a photo - these sort of things would look great on an enthusiast's wall, but likely just end up in some archive!

SeaLife 2011

Cant see this referenced anywhere else, but I find it a little annoying that they're selling the Japanese Spider Crabs as new for 2011. Yes, there's more of them in 2011, but they've been there for a good long while, yeah? Also, their arrival means that an already existing part of the SeaLife centre...
