Re: Merlin Parks Quick Questions

Re: Thorpe Park: General Discussion 2009

School trip days, especially the last few days of term are always the worst.

If you think about the summer holidays it's over 6 weeks so less concentrated, if that makes sense. Alton Towers isn't too busy in the holidays 30-60in queues when I've been so wondered if Thorpe was the same

Re: Thorpe Park: General Discussion 2009

But not all schools have broken up yet so that could still be the last of the school trips, or am I just trying to be optimistic :P Can't really get there early as we're coming down on train, and we can't really get there much before 12 as we come down through London and before 9:15 it costs a bomb!...

Re: Thorpe Park: General Discussion 2009

Hey :)

Just wondering roughly how busy Thorpe is on an August weekday - I know it's school holidays so not expecting it to be empty, but just wondered in terms of queue times.

Re: Freak weather at Alton

Good to have an explanation why Duel Hex and Flume were closed on Tuesday! The Flume did re-open but not till about 3pm on Tuesday, but The Flume and Duel were both open on Wednesday, don't know about Hex. Are you sure it was Duel that re-opened, not Hex? As I have been informed (wrongly or rightly...

The Flume did re-open but not till about 3pm on Tuesday, but The Flume and Duel were both open on Wednesday, don't know about Hex. All around Oblivions hole the pavement had pratically been ripped up and was roped off with a ...

Re: Alton Towers Third Hotel

I think getting some affordable accomodation would be great! When staying with a group of friends, my night at Splash landings is only costing me about £15 more than the travelodge I'm staying in the night before, but for a family staying for a night or it can be very costly to stay onsite. Log cabi...

Re: School trip period

I went with sixth form on one day in the last week of term, and TBH can't actually remember it being that bad, I remember when we arrived there were like a million buses, but once we were in the park the queues weren't even up to an hour maybe 1/2 - 3/4 at absolute most, and some including Oblivion ...

Re: Quick Questions 2009

Rather long 'Quick Question' I posted a thread but I thought it probably best fitted here A group of us our going down to Alton Towers after exams finish for 2 days with a night at splash landings and I've got a couple of questions. First I'm coming down a day early with a friend after Glastonbury s...

Re: Minor Issues: A Rant

People are right when they say the monorail drivers should put up with the audio like all the other members of staff, but I think the reason it gets turned off more is because there's more of a compulsion to turn off the monorail audio than ride audio. Its easier to press a button that's in your is...

I have to say I like the cloakroom style system that Thorpe has in on some rides. Doesn't cost anything, there's staff watching your stuff and is on-ride!

Good point, I'd forgotten about Thorpes, and I agree, definitely the best system of them all there

The Lockers!

Since it's quite easy to find fault with AT I'd just like to praise them for something which is actually quite trivial. But I think there system of putting bags/loose article, in their slidy cage things when you board the ride is really good! I've found other parks abroad operate a much worse system...

Re: ORLANDO!

No it was quite bad in the week just passed, but before then it was really good, because most kids weren't on spring break. Yeah I was there the same time, we arrived 26th. We didn't do Disney though (except Downtown Disney) we could either do Universal and Seaworld or Disney and we chose the flex ...

Re: Alton Towers Visitors & The Credit Crunch

Its a strange one. A day-out at Alton Towers isn't cheap. A weekend away at Alton Towers is anything but cheap. The park should do well as another aggressive marketing campaign will bring lots more people in, but could Alton Towers be sacrificing gate receipts by getting more people in on vouchers ...

Re: Alton Towers & Chavs

They should just make the rule of no unnaccompanied u18s on park. But then if the parents are like this then this isnt really a solution. As for the idea of putting the "chavs" in the skyride and leaving them there, good idea but imagine the state of the gondola once they're out.... Thats...

Re: Alton Towers Visit: 14th April - Review + Pictures (Many)

Don't worry I've been many times in high season in the summer and rarely had many waits as high as 60 (just one i think due to the ride breaking down while we were in the queue ) I think the OP was just unlucky it being near the Easter weekend, over the summer I think it being a longer holiday peopl...

Re: Minor Issues: A Rant

On the topic of queue times being over exaggerated, I have had the opposite issue on several occasions. It was basically that, we decided to hve a quick whizz on Hex, as the queue boards all around the park had advertised 5 minutes. 45 minutes. When we left the ride the boards were still advertisin...

Re: Queue lines?

I have to agree having just got back from Orlando all their queue line really put the likes of Alton to shame. I must admit though Dueling Dragons is a bit intense if your claustraphobic like me! All it takes is some really good themed objects in and around the queues. Even varying it a bit like som...

Re: Alton Towers Visit: 14th April - Review + Pictures (Many)

Just be grateful the queues of were only up to 90 minutes.

In the Orlando parks this Easter many were shut at full capacity by 11 - and if you were lucky enough to be in you have to deal with queues of up to 3 hours :O
