Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Ok, so I was at the park today. After an awful nights sleep in Splash Landings (Do not get me started on the beds and the kids running down corridors at 1 in the morning) Got in at 9, walked to Thirteen for early rider via Smiler to have a nose, noticed ridiculous queues building already (grabbed fa...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

C'mon guys, this isn't Disney or Universal. We don't get a world class ride AND world class theming. We get one or the other. If this was a big standard, couple of inversions roller coaster with a 'big thunder mountain theming budget' would you be happy? Yes the theming in some areas could be better...

Re: The Smiler Train Discussion

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say the design on the back of the trains is nothing more than that, a design. A pattern, something to make the trains look eye-catching. To stand out.

Re: The Smiler Train Discussion

I'm not sure how much this has been discussed in previous posts, but why the hell are people so mind warped on the the fact they want lap bars on this beast? Have people seen the size of this thing? The idea of 14+ inversions with a lapbar is not only nauseating but sounds uncomfortable as hell and ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

If there is an update whats the odds on seeing more track up?

I can see a lot more groundwork being complete and finalising of the station structure, but I doubt we'll see much past that!

I hope I'm wrong!

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I for one cannot wait for the next construction update! More than anything, it will liven the discussion up again. It's been extremely drab the past week or so.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Out of curiosity, is this the worlds first interlocking cobra roll and batwing on a coaster?

I'm interested to see if anywhere else has this type of element. I must say its a lot more eye catching and symbolic than I ever imagined it to be.

Re: Thorpe Park 2013: Possible Ride Discussion

Be dragged backwards into a blind 127ft drop before hurtling through the wasted landscape in a series of gut-wrenching near misses, including, new for 2013, the mangled metal of a devastated billboard.

Billboard eh? Sounds good to me. But where do we think it'll be placed on the ride?!

Re: Whats your favourite type of rollercoaster?

Very tough choice, went for suspended in the end.

This is simply because of Nemesis, Montu, Black Mumba and Dragons Challenge.

I was close to putting standard, for the simple fact that Hulk and Kraken are friggin awesome.

Re: 2014 - 150 Lodge Resort Development

Merlin want to add variety to the mix. This is, in my eyes, a great addition to the resort. I know a few friends who've visited the park this year and used local campsites for accommodation, because they prefer the self catering/budget option. This would be ideal. Myself, I prefer the hotels and ama...

Re: First Ever Alton Towers Experience!

First time I went, 1992-1993 I think. What sticks in my mind? Well being about 7 at the time, I freaked out after being literally forced onto The Haunted House, watched my dad on Thunder Looper and finally (after much debate) got on The Beast. All in all, it did feel very magical in the early 90's. ...

Re: Closed season ride updates

I'm pleased by this. I would hope Merlin take a page out of Disney's book and keep all rides up to date and refurb'd when required. Big Thunder Mountain is one of Magic Kingdoms oldest rides, and received a large refurbishment over half of this year. It really has made the difference and I'd like to...

Hire professional assassins to take out the Ropers?

And then proceed to build the world's greatest cross valley wooden coaster.

Re: Was th13teen really a failure?

The marketing was a failure, the whole marketing team behind the ride should be made to sprint through Alton Towers with there pants around there ankles screaming "I will never market a roller coaster again, I will never market a roller coaster again". If it wasn't built up so much by them...

Re: What ride would you like to see have a major re-theme?

Sonic Spinball, although I'd rather it just got removed and shipped off to Magic Mountain, it would look lovely as one of there 'car park' themed rides. The same goes for The Flume and CATCF, both need to be completely removed. They take up a massive amount of room for potentially a WORLD CLASS dark...

Re: what are your favoruite type of ride

I've gone for dark rides, and I'll tell you for why...........the experience. I think with roller coasters the experience cannot be enhanced as massively as a dark ride. If I think of my favourite rides Spiderman, Harry Potter, Revenge of the Mummy (part roller coaster I know), Haunted Mansion, Simp...
