Re: Grand National future

I have never ever known paint to promote decay in wood so I am not sure where you get that information from? That was according to a guy doing a behind the scenes tour in October.  He said that the problem occurred when the paint starts to flake and traps water against the surface of the wood....

Re: Grand National future

I really do belive that they know what they are doing with their woodies - after all, they have been around for a long time.  And a lot of wood has already been replaced. I'd not be surprised if the wooides don't get painted in future, as the paint can actually cause the wood to deteriorate fas...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

As for self-dueling mobious coaster, doesn't that require 2 tracks leaving the station?  I don't see how there is room for that. It's self -duelling, on ONE (mobius) track. The first half of the track duels with the second half. Once the first car reaches halfway, the second is despatched. You...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

SW7 is innovative. Have you seen a cobra roll and batwing intertwined before? No Has there been a self-duelling mobius coaster before? No Does intertwining elements count as innovative?  Only in the world of marketing and hype  As for self-dueling mobious coaster, doesn't that require 2 t...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

two brief points - 1) The Swarm was originally called "LC12" - I believe on fences and even down to the early website. Therefore it's entirely likely that AT will continue with the name SW7, until shortly before opening, when the "real" marketing kicks in. 2) SW7 - The worlds fi...

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

I think the best piece of advice I could give about improving the ride would be about slowing it down and making use of the dramatic timing. The actors stuck out for this very reason. But the egg sequence is just over in myriad lights and sounds and tickles and a drop. There were lots of 'punches' ...

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

I've not ridden it yet, but I have the following thoughts. I don't understand why some seem to be expecting the drop mechanism to give more than one drop.  Wasn't it said from quite early on that they were basically the same as the ones in the Dungeons?  Leg ticklers and back stabbers have...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

It was when JW started getting excited about the throughput of Th13teen, and how there was no delay between the drop and the train reversing that I really started to see him more as a PR man than anything else.  Of course, he also has excellent contacts with ride manufacturers and designers ;) ...

Re: Park Opening Hours 2012

It seems to me that Alton Towers /Merlin have made the wrong decision. What is the point in opening every day in the quiet season, but reducing the opening times?  It is likely to reduce the number of people visiting on those days even further, and cut the discretionary spend by those people wh...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

If we are seeing a launch the only way I can think Alton would be able to cope with one would be by using a traditional weighted launch, like on many of the old Shuttle Loop rides; the car engages onto a catch car, a weight is dropped, this weight pulls the car forward. I can't imagine that the Tow...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

This is a bit of a mad idea but ill throw it out there.... What about the indoor section have a robocoaster section where the train locks onto a small part of track and can be thrown around like robocoasters do? a 20-30 second show in the building explaining the story of the ride? Now, that might a...

Re: 2012: Nemesis Sub-Terra... Part 2

Thinking about seats and restraints... I'm hoping that that they will be over the shoulder restraints. I'd even go as far as saying I want the ride to hold your wrists down as well as your ankles. If this is a 4D ride, the feeling of being completely restrained while something menacing is in front ...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

There may very well be a worlds first part inside... But DO NOT get your hopes up, you WILL set yourself up for dissapointment. the worlds first element will be the most obvious option, Th13teen for example, intial theory itll drop you... Gut reaction, obvious option... But wild ideas of tilting fl...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

If SW7's trains have lapbars like the ones in that concept art, I will be most pleased :D Those would be fantastic, they look similar to the ones B&M use on their Mega coasters. I'm not sure they would be acceptable on a coaster with inversions though. I found the restraints on Dare Devil Dive ...

Re: TTF Euro Coaster Poll: Round 1, Group 2: VOTE NOW!

I felt inspired to share my voting (and thoughts) in this group - so here goes. 1. Piraten - I've not riden it, but I really want to.  It appears to be an Intamin air time machine, that they sometimes do so well. 2. Fluch von Novgorod - I'd been told that it was good, but since I'm not a fan of...

Re: Blackpool pleasure beach ticket prices!!!

When did you last visit Blaze? I do recognise the sort of staff bahaviour that you describe from a few years ago, but things are definitley improving now in my experience. It started with the introuduction of the ambassadors, who appear to have been carefully selected and trained to treat people rig...

Re: Fast track tickets

My biggest problem with the fast track type tickets is that parks seem to sell too many of them. And things like the Ultimate fast track - which seem to allow people to avoid the queues without limit - are just wrong in my opinion. There is a place for a limited number of fast tracks to allow avoidi...

^^ Only might do a trip report? I really hope that you do report back on your experiences of the day. I know what you mean about that type of restraint - just make sure that you sit up straight when they tighten the restraints so that you don't get squashed down and you should be ok. I think t...

Re: Flamingo Land - June 2011

I much prefer Kumali to Infusion. It's the only SLC I have ridden to date that does not deserve the label "hang and bang". I actually like Kumali - and you don't hear me say that about an SLC usually! I also like MumboJumbo, but some think it is too slow. Staff; ride operations and food ar...

Re: 101 Rides to ride before you die

38) Ravine Flyer II (Waldameer)

39) Troy (Toverland)

Two amazingly good woodies. Not quite as good as The Voyage. But pretty much on par with El Toro.
