Re: Coaster corner?

For 13, it was either a major ride component, or advertising hoo ha, I would guess the latter but all very exciting :-k

Re: Planned But Never Built

Is the 1988 temporary planning application for the Alton Mouse, or did they apply for retrospective planning permission later than '88 which was also refused?

Re: SW1 & SW2

The plans will never be acted upon for the same reason they weren't acted upon in the first place: the ride experience wasn't up to standard for the pipeline coaster type, for JWs design. If a manufacturer could make a pipeline coaster thrilling and profitable then there may be some scope for produc...

Here are the original plans for SW1 and I can echo whats already been said SW1 and SW2 were both planned on the Nemesis site http://old.towerstimes.co.uk/history/plans/sw1/sw106.jpg http://old.towerstimes.co.uk/history/plans/sw1/sw108.jpg Obviously many plans floating around in this early Tussauds/...

Re: SW1 & SW2

They were two designs of Pipeline coaster (manufactured by Arrow) that would open in Thunder valley. Upon traveling to the USA to ride a coaster of this type, they discovered they were unreliable and actually not that thrilling. The two designs were scrapped. After that, they heard about the new B&...

Re: Roper update

The Ropers used to make more noise then Alton Towers do now. Most of the locals are fine and welcome Alton Towers and the amount of money customers bring to the local area, a lot of businesses accurately wouldn't survive if Alton Towers wasn't there. As they say "there's always one" This ...

Re: Roper update

Moving in even when it was a fair ground they must have thought it was going to get bigger. Just like airports there never going to stay the same size for ever. Company's need to grow or there's no point in having them and they will grow any way they can. To move into a house and to think the fun f...

Re: Roughly how much land is left to build on?

I think they could reopen coaster corner. I never saw the area open in person but read that there was 2 coasters and a flat ride on the site. Originally in '88 there were 4 coasters: Alton Beast, Alton Mouse, 4 Man Bob and the Mini Apple Coaster, along with Astroglide and Baby Flug (depending on it...

Which part of catcf used to be Doom and Sons, are there still any features of it on the outside such as windows etc...? :) http://old.towerstimes.co.uk/history/construction/catcf/rl/catcf05091205.jpg This is from the demolition/ Charlie construction. This side (facing the Burger Kitchen), is now wh...

Re: Re: Roper update

It is a bit like people who live under the flight path at Heathrow complaining about the noise, unless they are 80 years old and owned the house before the airport was built, how can they complain about the noise when they knew there was an airport there in the first place.... I guess the loss of &...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Not sure if this has already been discussed, does The Smiler entrance have any special features i.e. smoke? Light effects in circles on the inside on both sides. Since everyone seems to suggest the front row is the smoothest ride (as well as having the best view obviously) do they let you queue for...

I have a good reason, its very uncomfortable, and a poor ride if you compare it to Dragon's Fury at Chessington.

I'd rather do the Squirrel Nutty.

It is, but it has the magic and the 'mentalness' of a mouse coaster, something like a modern day (safer) Alton Mouse! :D

Re: Alton Towers: What Ever Happened To?

Slightly off, but on topic... What ever happend to ATA ( http://www.towersalmanac.com/ ) Some of the team had some disagreements over the way things were run, others simply grew old and became too busy with their jobs and families and so the site was left SBNO. There was an effort a few months ago ...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Why would it be a capacity killer? Because it would extend the ride time, and therefore slow down throughput. I'm going to have party poppers and champagne at the ready come opening day when myself and many other riders ascend that vertical lift and go straight over the top, with no reversing back ...

AT already had a BreakDance in Dino-Dancer & Dynamo... I "think" they still have it in storage... http://gallery.towersalmanac.com/albums/retired/dynamo/normal_dynamo_storage.jpg I think Dynamo/ Astro-Dancer/ Dino-Dancer is now owned by Wetzel travelling fairs in Switzerland (but don'...

Re: Has Alton Towers lost its touch?

I wish the 2 for 1 would be replaced by half price. I went to Sealife the other week as a family of 3, used one 2-for-1 so it cost £45. The gate price for a family of 3 was £51 so I only saved £6. It would have cost £45 for a family of 4 too, with the vouchers. But the promo is to get you to the at...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I believe alton favour and use Bose speakers a lot. They arnt bad quality for outdoor (all weather) speaker's. I'd hope the indoor section is quite weather tight and will allow them to use some very nice powerful speakers. An independent boom box for the base would be great. Especially withe echo i...
