Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm

More pictures from the developer's diary today... (And these ones are pretty interesting!) Here you can see the corkscrew rising up through the incline loop: http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/ad175/Chicken73142/track.jpg And here's the final in-line twist inversion, over the station building: http...

Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm

There isn't a live cam, but there is a facebook page (search for 'The Swarm Developer's diary') which Thorpe seem to be updating (in a very piecemeal way) :)

Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm

Funnily enough... here's someone else who has experienced the delights of a 127ft drop! http://img.metro.co.uk/i/pix/2009/03/extremekayakerBAR_450x300.jpg Kayaker's record 127ft plunge over waterfall http://www.metro.co.uk/news/594243-kayakers-record-127ft-plunge-over-waterfall

Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm

The lift hill has now 'topped out', with the highest section of track sat firmly atop the highest A frame at a pleasing 127 feet....

Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm

Damn this is going up fast! As soon as you post photos, they're out of date! Here is a picture from today from the facebook page/time lapse camera... half the third A frame in on the lift hill (looking at the plans, this one will reach the full height of the lift hill... http://i928.photobucket.com...

Okay, here goes with some more pics... Here's the bottom of the first drop... http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/ad124/GoldMothergmail/swarm/DSC00889.jpg It's quite far back from the (current) top of the lift hill, as you can see here: http://i928.photobucket.com/albums/ad124/GoldMothergmail/swarm/...

Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm

I haven't posted for a while as I've been far, far too busy... I thought, therefore, that you all deserved a treat. Here I present a bucket load of piccies of Swarm's construction from yesterday. The image quality is not all it could be as these were taken on my rusty ol' mobile - sorry. And - for w...

Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm

Interesting that, when this ride opens, the table at rollercoaster database will change from what it is currently: http://rcdb.com/ib.htm To: 1st, 35 inversions, Six Flags Magic Mountain 2nd, 21 inversions, Thorpe Park 3rd, 20 inversions, Carowinds Now I certainly agree that inversions aren't everyt...

Re: Cost to build a Roller coaster

I can't help directly, but I know a few, ball-park figure numbers. Bid rides at AT have cost around £10-15 million, including Air, Nemesis, Oblivion and most recently Th13teen. For Air and Oblivion, this is mainly on the ride's technology (and excavation); on Th13teen, it seems to be mainly the them...

Re: Chessington World Of Adventures: Future Discussion

I've never understood what relevance Bubbleworks has to Transylvania - and I think this brings the area down.

I'm sure someone will explain some historic link ;) but at the moment, it's just out of place.

Re: Alton's Biggest Win! (If that is how you put it.)

Nemesis came at the height of the original Tussaud's magiv era. Like no ride other than Corkscrew, Nemesis re-defined the park and took it up to the next level. Oblivion, Air, Th13teen: all are successful rides in my opinion, but none of them changed the image of the park and became iconic in the sa...

Re: best old Alton Towers ride?

First inverter I ever rode only had a lap-bar. It was Tower of Terror at Camelot theme park. The ride is still going - it's now 'Twist and Shout' at Loudon Castle: http://www.rcdb.com/826.htm I'm sure it's like mos...

Re: The Future of the Blackhole Tent

Dig a little pit (Alton are good at that) so that the lift hill of a Eurofighter can be accommodated in there.

Stick one in - think 'Rage' at Adventure Island - and then theme it so well it knocks the pants off Saw: The Ride.

Re: best old Alton Towers ride?

^I only ever went on Corkscrew once a day as it was just so rough. I'm gutted I didn't get to go on Thunderlooper though. I was there in '94 on a stupid-busy day, the queue for Nemmy was 3 hours+ and Thunderlooper was well over an hour. I wanted to queue for at least one of them, but the others I wa...

Re: A little moan and advice needed

I always wear a bum-bag so that I don't have to lug another bag around with me. It's quite a flat one, though, and it just fits my keys, wallet, change, etc. so they don't fall out of my pockets (as a £1 coin did on Stealth once, spinning in the air motionless relative to the train). Sometimes I hav...

Re: Pleasure Beach - A View Of The Future (If Only)

I have to jump on the Avalance bandwagon - you want unique rides, there's a (UK) unique ride. Can't get rid of it! Please don't rip it down Spike... [-o<

I find it strange, actually, that I'm more bothered about you removing Avalanche than I am about Big Dipper. :)
