Re: Your Favourite Park Area

Gardens. I've actually been to Alton Towers before for the day and not been on any rides at all. I can't be bothered queuing in the summer if it's busy  :)

My favourite area with rides is probably Kantanga. I like the farm because of the animals, but don't go on any of the rides there.

Re: Am I too big for the rides?

I'm at a similar size. The only problem I've ever had at Thorpe was the Swarm. The ride host got me in without too much bother though, the restraint just needed an extra push down from above.

I can get on all the other Thorpe rides without any problem.

Re: Off Peak Closure of SkyRide and Other Cuts

The park was nearly empty today. Didn't wait more than 10 mins for anything. I'm finding people just don't think it's worth the money at the moment. I took three friends with me today for £15 each (MAP friends offer). We'd tried to invite lots of others, but most people decided it wasn't worth it fo...

Re: Oblivion model!?

It's two A5 sheets of printed card. You press out the pieces, fold them and then glue them together. You get a base, the vertical part of the track and a ride car. There's no instructions, you have to figure it out for youself - it's not hard though. It's for sale in Towers Trading for £2. http://i9...

Re: Am I too big for the rides?

I could get on everything fine at size 20. However I did need the ride host's help getting on Swarm at Thorpe Park. My thighs were too big for me to close the seat myself . Luckily the restraint just needed a push downwards to click into place. If in doubt quietly ask for directions to t...

Re: Quick Questions 2012

To get a Towers2 ticket, do you simply present your ticket from the previous day at the ticket booths, or do you buy it from guest services during your first day on park? I've bought them in guest services in the past and in the box office in the past. I haven't needed to show my tickets from that ...

Re: Skyride Today

It was open first thing today as I caught it to go from Towers Street to Forbidden Valley. It was shut when I was going to go on to it after lunch and I didn't see it reopen, but I left early.

Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm

Bubbleworks at Chessington used to be family groups only. I can remember getting turned away as a teenager. Didn't think it was particularly fair as it was one of the only rides everyone in my group enjoyed going on.

Next day £9
Any day £15

They didn't check my entrance ticket for that day when I bought one.

Re: Guilty Pleasures...Secret Things to do at the Towers

I take my marking (I'm a teacher), to do in the gardens on warm sunny weekends

ERT for some rides, lunch in Explorers, marking in gardens, ice cream and wander round the farm, more marking, then finally off to Dark Forest and Cloud Cuckoo Land when the queues die down

Re: Closed park

My friend had a dated ticket, so after a quick look on the Alton Towers Facebook page to check it was open, we set off. We figured the roller coasters might be closed, but she'd get a free ticket back if that was the case, and we could still explore the rest of the park. We arrived with a friend jus...

Re: So how long have people here been visiting Alton Towers?

My first visit was in 1989. I then visited every few years until 2009. Then I got a car, moved to the Midlands, got an annual pass and now can visit regularly  :D

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

I went on yesterday and it was dire  :x I was in the single rider queue, so missed the queue line videos. The best bit was the actors. The first lift had nothing going on other than a small TV screen. Got in the core, seats were wet, which annoyed several people around me (and there didn't seem...

Re: Quick Questions 2012

You can buy your friend a ticket by phone if you know when you are going 24 hours in advance. Merlin Annual Pass holders get 40% off tickets for friends.

See http://www.merlinannualpass.co.uk/for-passholders/perks.aspx for details.

Re: Quick Questions 2012

The way I've always done it is to go to the sales windows to the left of the entrance turnstiles (I think they are for collecting prebooked tickets). Show them proof of your annual pass - Tesco vouchers, letter or printed off the website depending on how you paid for it. They'll print you a free tic...
