Re: Does front row on Nemesis make the difference?

Front row is cool, especially the scenery rushing up to you around the helix and the hangtime at the top of the loop.

Back row right seat is still the place to ride though just for the forces around the helix and loop, will never get tired of it. Even compared to row 7 it's noticeably more intense.

Re: Queue Times Graph

Would be amazing if there is a way to automate this to collate loads of data and spot patterns that are less affected by breakdowns etc.

Though I guess Alton would probably take the online times down if they found out it was happening.

Re: The Smiler

[Stttrrrrreeeeeeeetttccchhh] Been a while since I've posted........ I'd read that the last couple of inversions are a little brutal. I rode it twice and on the former ride, the penultimate inversion crushed my right testicle. Yes they are a little brutal. (You'll be pleased to know that for my seco...

Re: So has The Smiler topped Nemesis?

Over on American coaster forums like themeparkreview they are all moaning about things like "it's not a 14 looping coaster because it has 2 lift hills" and that it's "2 separate coasters" implying that that makes it somehow not as good.

Lol.

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

How long does the single riders queue tend to be? Anything to avoid queues of 3+ hours. Some people here have reported good experiences of single rider, even down to 5-10 minutes when the main queue is busy. I doubt it would get anything over an hour (at which point they would probably stop people ...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Would they be able to run 5 trains without significant stacking on the final brake run? Were they running 4 trains without stacking? If not then adding another train probably wouldn't add much capacity. I suspect the 5th train is more just a spare in case they need to do maintenance on another. The ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

yes it will affect them financially quite a bit. they are having to give away open return tickets. That's not necessarily a disaster though, if those people were just coming to ride the Smiler then they probably wouldn't have come back later in the year to ride again so some of them will spend mone...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Rob over at TowersStreet posted a photo update earlier today which doesn't seem to have been mentioned. Visit this link. It looks like there are magnetic fins added to the second airtime hill, thought they were there before but seems a new addition. They have also dug 2 trenches around the shop and...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Quick question- does anyone know how long the queue will be (regular queline) on the 24th June, as I'm going then? Thanks! Probably quite long, but I imagine Thursday and the weekend + bank holiday Monday will be worse. Some school trips will probably show up and some kids will be on study leave by...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Just a question, I know about actors, none of them are what you'd say to have blood on their faces or anything is there? It'd be a tad embarrassing for me if there is... I did see a picture of a bunch of young adults dressed as patients/nurses a while back so I don't know if that indicates somethin...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Do we know if the single rider queue will be operating from opening? (Sorry if this is not the right topic to ask in - I'm new around here!) Anyone? Probably. Alton Towers wouldn't want to be sending round empty seats when the ride will be extremely busy and the ride operators will have had plenty ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Has the Obvlivion changed at all to go with the smiler theme? or is a case of AT clashing themes again? (As they do!) They replaced the Fanta logo on top of the Rehydrator with the Smiler logo. They repainted it as well, in the same shade of black as the Smiler to match (it's a different colour to ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I am loving the photo updates of the Smiler, thank you. I am watching with fascination at how this thing is taking shape. It looks so incredibly photogenic and building hasn't even finished yet. The theme is great and reminds me of Portal 2 in some ways. I cannot wait to watch/experience the ride i...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Anyone else think they over did it with the cameras? It seems it, but then maybe it is something more significant to do with a feature of the ride. Some thoughts from me, yesterday, here . The one in China has only 11 loops I thought? It's basically a knock-off of Colossus built by a Chinese manufa...

Re: SRQ-Single Rider Queue

Single Rider queue is great on Nemesis, as mentioned above it's right next to the exit and there is usually a free seat at least every other train. You can do plenty of laps even on fairly busy days. On other rides the SRQ is not so great though. I would advise not bothering with the Spinball SRQ at...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

It's amazing what a bit of turf can cover up. Hope they have good drainage on the concrete slab though... About the trims, they're not being used in order to save the coaster from destroying itself (aka Thirteen) and it is intended to be a thrill ride, not a family coaster (also aka Thirteen) so hop...
