Re: SeaWorld Orlando

Just got back from Orlando. SeaWorld x 3 visits. Mako is a reasonable coaster, albeit ruined by the unnecessary trim on the airtime hill #3. I'm surprised existing reviews rate it so highly - Shambala in Port Aventura is a lot more fun. Very smooth and re-rideable though, and the queues were non-exi...

Re: New Website

It's awful. As a website developer myself, I cant believe they wouldn't have tested the site on all the browsers. Have been trying to book a short break and the scroll bars in the credit card area won't scroll (IE11), so we can't select the correct expiry date. So, we gave up and booked a Travelodge...

Re: Fixing my rollercoaster phobia!

I did indeed tyrex... thanks very much for it!!! Some really useful stuff there. I won't feel I've really conquered it until I've done all the rides at Thorpe Park though. I've started a ridecount like yours... actaully I'm quite lucky since my ridecount encompasses every ride I have ever ridden in...

Re: Fixing my rollercoaster phobia!

I'm going to be blunt. You can't simply 'fix' a phobia. What I say- If you don't like RIDES you don't like rides If you like the RIDE you like the ride WRONG! Check out the ridecount below buddy ;) Didn't realise this topic had resurrected, but glad it has been of help - hoping you got my email rep...

Re: Quick Questions

I have some 2 for 1 vouchers from earlier this season. The terms state 'not valid at Alton Towers on 9th/10th November or any special event at any Merlin attraction'. However, I'm not going on the 9th/10th - I'm going on the 8th. But then will the fireworks count the 8th as a special event? And if ...

Re: The Smiler

Sorry to say but I'm with ponder above. I wasn't particularly blown away by The Smiler either. Currently touring around the North West USA riding coasters in lots of different parks and every comparison I'm making is not with The Smiler, it is with Nemesis. That is the hallmark of a good ride. As so...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Good to see RCDB has updated their 'Record holders' page and made The Smiler officially the world's number one for inversions: http://rcdb.com/rhr.htm?m=4 It's been like that a while. I know this because I had a massive email argument with the guy that runs it. he has missed 'the' off of "The ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Wow, just heard the screeching videos and seen the scratched tracks- what a shocker! To think that a rollercoaster manufacturer can't get the tolerances of their wheel assemblies correct. Compare this to B&M's Swarm - silky smooth from opening to this day. Appreciate Smiler's cars are a bit diff...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I believe the middle of the structure is somehow stuck into the ground, but if not, it's still a dead giveaway the entire structure won't move. The hinges and cables are just theming to suggest the entire structure could move, but it most certainly won't :) Fair enough, thanks for clarifying. I can...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Quick question on the Marmaliser - with all the yellow hydraulics on the arms and the screen apparently being held on free hanging cables - is there a possibility that the entire structure can move - War of the Worlds style - bringing each of the individual elements closer to the trains at relevant ...

At first I thought you were just immensely clever before you posted the link!  :D I wouldn't have put it and claimed the knowledge as my own.  :D Eh? I wasn't claiming the knowledge as my own. But my post is a lot more detailed than the link explains, so perhaps I've gone to a bit more ef...

Re: The Smiler Train Discussion

Just out of curiosity how does Saw's OSTR work? Is it still ratchet based, but just silent? Or does it work differently? No, they're locked by hydraulic cylinders (that look just like car shock absorbers without the springs). One either side of the seat, both independently secured to the OTSR, so i...

Re: Highlights of the 2011 season

Highlight for me was sorting out my phobia of coasters by riding one (Air) for the first time back in July. Also discovering how bloody amazing Nemesis is during my two-day weekend visit in August. Lowlight was the massive queues for the entire 11 hour day of Scarefest, will probably give it a miss ...
