Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I think it's just two sections of track with trim brakes, side by side.

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Looking at the main AT website, the picture of the ride seems to show Overhead restraints? Floorless trains also!!!! The trains look a lot like the B&M floorless models, however if they are indeed floorless it will confirm OSTR's. Maybee the Worlds First Floorless Gerstlauer! Ohh I'm excited no...

Re: Roper update

From what I remember, the coaster itself didn't need permission for reasons I cannot remember, only the building. That is correct, the actual track is within the GDO area (General Development Order) which doesn't need further planning permission, and in fact were only shown for "completeness o...

Are there any of the Creme Egg cars still running? I thought they were a great marketing tool!

Re: Do you fall quicker on Oblivion than you would falling yourself?

It might be worth taking a look at the teachers resources section of the AT website, I seem to remember there were some forces worksheets on there at one time, and I'm sure they looked at some aspects of Oblivions' drop, but I'm afraid I don't remember exactly what!

Re: Scarefest 2012

Coloured Gels are ace - and they do tend to use them where lighting is concerned (apart from the brilliant LED lighting). Problem lies with Speedy Hire seemingly not being able to allow coloured gels on their temporary lighting systems. If they could do this, i'm hoping we'd end up seeing far more ...

Re: NO SPOILERS - 2012: Nemesis Sub-Terra... Part 2

Age limit has been slapped on terry by film chiefs... 12A marketing stunt? Almost certainly! For one the BBFC were invited in by AT. They have never been involved in this kind of experience - they are a media classification organisation... "The BBFC is an independent, self-financing and not-fo...

Re: So... about SW8

Fair point, although if it fits within GDO land, why do the buildings need consent? Just a thought as well, if SW7 plans were put on hiatus and these as we know them rolled out, why didn't they postpone the project until 2014 to finalise concepts rather than a rush job? The buildings were taller th...

It may not be the strangest coaster, but take a look at this: http://cache.rcdb.com/hg5lg10lo4i60032obo438.jpg it looks like a B&M invert, but it isn't ;) this a giovanola invert called Anaconda at Gold Reef City in South Africa Sorry for going back a while, only just had a flick through this t...

Re: The "Ultimate" Fireworks 2012

Also worth noting that Disney use a proprietary detonation/explosion system for their fireworks, hence why their shows are so well synchronised.  It would also be difficult to justify the expense Disney have gone to for the design of the show, as no doubt this was significant.  There's no...

Re: New to the forum? Introduce yourself here!

Hi all, just realised I've never properly introduced myself!

My name is Matt, aka Muttlee, and I'm a 29 year old Lighting Designer and Engineer from near Nottingham!
I've been visiting AT for a number of years, and been reading on here for a while too.

So... Hi! :D

Re: Next Concert?

I think in reality we are more likely to see the kind of act that do the summer evening concert circuits. AT isn't able to provide enough capacity and infrastructure on park for the stadium acts, and tempting / affording groups to do this kind of event as a one off is much harder than if they are on...

3. SOURCE NOISE LEVELS AND NOISE PROPAGATION PROPOSED COASTER NOISE LEVELS 3.1 Noise from the planned new coaster was modelled based on a similar one located at Thorpe Park. The Thorpe Park ride, “Saw” is the same type and manufacturer as the proposed ride, including a “beyond vertical” drop. Third...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Apparently the new ride finish will be to RAL7021 "Black Grey" which converts to an approx RGB value of 26,33,41 (obviously how this displays will vary with monitor settings etc.) The RAL colour codes can be seen on this website... http://www.themeter.net/ral_e.htm I believe I read on one ...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

A target determination date has been set for 14th February 2012. I guess we'll have to wait until then to see whether SW7 will be approved, and then discussion will really hot up, if it wasn't already. Ah, Feb 14th... maybe it'll be the first "Tunnel of Love" themed coaster at Towers! ;)

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I mentioned this in the area discussion, but seeing as throughput has come up here I'll mention it here too... Looking at the queline, I reckon the outside main queue from Plaza to Building is very roughly just under 400M, obviously that doesn't include any queline in the building, but 400M doesn't ...

As a very rough guide taken from the plans I reckon about 800M to 900M, although this was just my rough measurement!

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

BTW, the noise readings at Thorpe were taken on 2nd Nov (also in 3.1 of the noise report) Please don't get me wrong, whoever builds this I think it will be an amazing ride and I think the design teams (whoever they are) have done a great job. Just as was said earlier, if we accept that the informati...
