Re: Wicker Man Reviews & Discussion [SPOILERS]

For me personally, I've decided that the pitch black in the shed suggests the dark abyss of death once you've been burnt to death as a sacrifice to the Wicker Man. I know that probably wasn't the intention, but it gave me my own end to the story, so what the hey? :-) And the blasts of 'smoke' are th...

Re: Wicker Man Reviews & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I was lucky enough to ride it on Tuesday and it was a personal thrill that 24 years and a day since I rode Nemesis three times on its first public opening day, I lucked out and rode Wicker Man on its first public opening day too, albeit only once. Like many others, I had been cynical of the ride sin...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

I'm really enjoying the mystery surrounding SW8! To be honest, for this attraction, I'm not over analysing things and enjoying watching the coaster rise up before my eyes! I'm rolling with the marketing this time around and it is fun! The least I know, the better and more magical it becomes! Same h...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Or maybe there is no launch at all, and in reality the European first is that it'll have Bonnie Tyler playing in the drop tunnel! :O #whatsinthetunnel Surely she'd be playing in the turnaround (bright eyes)? Seriously though, this is the most secret Secret Weapon to date. Previously, we've either b...

Unless the Somethings are Wicker Men aliens and they're coming!

Or their coming, or there coming.

If you're in the business of writing signs to be seen by the public, at least have a grasp of English grammar. #Embarrassing

...I can happily say that these posters have nothing to do with it! ;) Actually you can't. You're as wise as the rest of us, so you can't happily come to any conclusion as yet. Nobody's fallen for anything. Now we have hindsight and we now know that this poster was a hint for the enthusiasts for th...

If memory serves me right, the music appeared along with the steampunk re-theme, which I think was actually 1996 For Black Hole.

Re: Flagship Rides

Personally I would have said Corkscrew was the starting block. It's what gave Alton it's name and started big thrill rides that invert in the UK. It's reputation already existed, Nemesis just added to it. Yes, this. By the time Nemesis was opened, Alton Towers was already the UK's number one theme ...

Re: What Was Nemesis Like When It First Opened?

Fair enough, certainly does seem odd which is why I made the presumption. Well yeah, that's how hard it is to imagine now. I think it's because it was the first 'next generation' ride to make its debut, and the 'official' opening hadn't happened already at that point, even though it had been on a f...

Re: What Was Nemesis Like When It First Opened?

Someone told me about 6 hour queues :? As Shockadelica said in his post, the 20-30 minutes queues were on its soft opening day on the 16th March. The 6 hour queues you've heard about were likely to be on its official opening on the 19th and onwards. No, it was the 19th of March when I went, which w...

Re: What Was Nemesis Like When It First Opened?

Well for starters, it wasn't actually that busy the first day it opened. We managed three rides on it, with queues of 20-30 mins all day. And we still managed to do all the other rides in the park that we wanted to. I think it was a different story for its official opening, though. I remember that f...

Re: Old maps, posters, guides, collectables etc for sale?

On eBay it was £15 but I'd expect people to pay more Wow! Just looking around and some of the AT stuff seems to go for amazing/ridiculous prices.  I've got a reasonable collection of maps etc, from the 80s but although there's a part of me that would sell them, I know I'd probably immediately ...

I don't recall that happening at Alton Towers.
However I do remember that during its first year of operation, the Thorpe Park Rapids had a boat capsize and the worst that happened was a young boy had part of his ear ripped off.

Yep, 1984 was remarkable.  And then to add Mississippi Showboat and 1001 Nights as well, half way through the season...

Imagine if The Smiler had been accompanied by another half dozen new flat rides too, this year!  That was the same excitement 1984 gave.

Re: 1989 Official Guide

Oooh... now this is everso exciting. Because whilst that is the 1989 Guide, I think it's part of the rare batch that were actually sold in the 1990 season, before Tussauds bought the park. The silver sticker on the front is actually covering where the cover originally said "1989", which I...
