Re: News: Reduced Attraction Operating Hours

I'm sure there are very valid reasons for this line-up to be the ones reduced, but i really cant see how air, possibly 13 are in it... Congo River Rapids, The Flume, Battle Galleons, Skyride, Driving School, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I can see the reasoning though. In my opinion working the ...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Without a doubt the designers have to think 'out-the-box' so to speak, but words first of its kind switch track? Although not really marketable ( i dont think ) maybe you are on to something? Could the track do a loop? i mean just turn over 360degrees? Worlds first? I still stick by my bet, that it ...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

As vertical construction starts on September , was it?, might we see the 'indoor section' being built? If the station building is a 'proper building' the track will have to go up in advance wont it? I am probably underestimating how much they can actually do in close season though. Tbh i cant see th...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Taking inflation into consideration, yes. But when the price of steel and general landscaping work has risen way more than inflation, I would assume that chris is about right. Although steel has, at times, risen more than 'inflation', it is still factored into general inflation. In 2009 for example...

I reckon to build Nemesis today would cost at least £25 million.

The cost of Nemesis in 'today's' money is £15m, taking general inflation into consideration.

Maybe £16-17m at a push, but no way £25m!

Can we not just have another one of them please  :D

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Its for the whole project inc marketing etc & deconstruction. I wouldnt imagine the deconstruction of the tent would of been ruinous, infact a lot of demolition firms don't get paid, but take away the scrap. (especially if a building is full of say, copper wiring) i don't know if the skeleton &a...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

What about re-building it around the supports, could be a feature even? dare i suggest a themed toilet? Steelworks? all metal fixtures & fittings?

Don't know if that would be possible mind?

Re: Roper update

Agree in the main, but they don't even live there! Its not like they are subjected to it, they have a choice which house to be at. They could live in Farley the months of the year the towers are closed. They could go outside when the park shuts. Its not 100% of the time. They get compensation, like ...

Re: Roper update

As much as we know this for gospel, but they even LOOK like your typical, sad, old & bitter couple. Fair enough they have earned their money fairly, but what a sad life you lead if you want to spend you're millions (and yes it could be) on pursuing an ongoing argument with a facility that thousa...

Re: Roper update

Isn't blivvy's track already filled with sand? How would a bypass even help? if the bypass was full then you would just go down the existing road wouldn't you? That's one of the beauty's of 'public highway' ! Is there even room for one? It would cost a small-kings-ransom to build one too. more than ...

Re: Roper update

Which rides in particular are they seeking an injunction against? Oblivion I believe. Do they have plans to take it to high court then? I cant see a jury or judge ruling that the park shuts/relocates/closes rides. I know there is 'power to the people' etc but the whole claim is ridiculous & for...

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

I disagree, i would say ( at a guess ) 80% of Alton's visitors have not been to a foreign theme park & would not notice  if a new flat was similar to one in Europe especially. Yes if Alton took the exact same model as Thorpe people would compare, but even excluding Thorpe, chessies & DM...

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

I don't think it would have to be a new prototype though, just new to the UK maybe, or a slight variation of an existing model... Ripsaw wasn't a prototype. Just with added water-jets, it changed the ride experience somewhat. The thing is, when we talk about, new 'worlds firsts' or 'prototypes' and ...

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

Compared to storm surge & S:ALIVE, yes Subterra is in a different class, but for the money, not such good 'value for money' so-to-speak. How much are flat rides anyway? As Dave says, 2 flats would of been better, and gone down better with GP, especially after the neg reviews of ST. I don't think...

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

I am glad they added a new attraction, even if it is substandard. ( although i think its a very good attraction actually ) Considering it cost AS MUCH as Rita, I don't see how they can compare the two. Tbh I think I would prefer, for the park, an off-the-shelf thrill machine like Rita, even with sub...

Re: Test Track Presented by Chevrolet - Autumn 2012

This is a turn up for the books; the SAME sponsor putting more money into an 'old' albeit AMAZING attraction - more of this please... So long as the 'track' doesn't change too much & the theming stays on par with its current standard, this can be nothing but good news! Actually; I think TT is th...

Re: If You could bring back one past ride?

^ I agree with your point and I would be lying if I said i preferred xsector now, but when the GP see SW7 next year they are not going to think about how run down oblivion is. I just think though, it will NEVER get back to how it was - for instance, how ever much you look after an old car - it still...

Re: If You could bring back one past ride?

Oblivion will get big ques again when SW7 opens though I guarantee. Even if Oblivion had no paint whatsoever and had mould growing on the seats I would still ride it regardless, as would most I feel. Lets face it - Alton would never let it get that bad, but a bit of faded paint... I really don't see...
