Re: Drayton Manor

It's good that Alton have posted staff about and made slight improvements to the signage. But this isn't sustainable, they won't pay people to stand there, so this will probably end up with the ride being closed more often or altogether in the future. Maybe an idea would be to install a roof of some...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

There is no need for crumple zones on rollercoaster trains - as unlike motorways / any other road - the track is controlled by a complex computer system. In fact, normally 3 computer systems - 2 separate ones each running different codes & switches and then a third one checking that the two sys...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

They had no choice they had to pled guilty or it would have been a long public court case and merlin don't want that A Large fine is subjective they were fined 150k for the tomb blaster fall and 490k for the death at warwick castle so a large (the above giving an idea ) fine is coming but that comp...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Seeing these pictures really hits home, it's such a shame that it happened. Alton Towers are doing the right thing pleading guilty, they have done everything right with full respect for the injured and future customers and I respect them for that. I just hope that the inevitable fine is not going to...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I may be reading too much into it as I'm sure a lot of temp staff have left now for college / uni commitments but for the last few days on Twitter retail jobs have been advertised, while this is not uncommon it may be another subtle hint at The Smiler re-opening. The description states it involves ...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Basically echoing what has been said, it would be silly for Alton Towers to re-open the ride so close to the end of season. The press will be all over it and then Alton has months of being closed where they are not able to answer to all the scrutiny without guests showing a positive reaction to the ...

Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

At Thorpe they have a 30 minute window and has been like that for the past few years. However they usually don't stick to the time as even the fast track queue can get long on busy days, so are very understanding if your a few minutes over your half hour gap. Possible reason for fast track queue li...

Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

I warned you Alton towers people a reserve and ride system will spread. There masking it as this cbeebies land thing but im sure you will see it on all rides with in a few years done via a smart phone. It will never work, the amount of negative feedback AT would have from people being one minute la...

Re: CBeebies Land 2014 - General Discussion

I think many people have completely forgotten that they have just given the area a lick of paint with a BBC theme, looking at some of the POVs which have appeared online it looks like some areas are extremely poor as well! What gets me the most is Drayton Manor's success story is Thomas Land, Pault...

Re: CBeebies Land 2014 - General Discussion

I've just seen on the Alton Towers Guide that they are doing timed tickets for the in the night garden ride on the 9th June, what I don't understand is how is the place so busy?! - Children are in school so this leaves the under 3's who don't go to school, or the kids in comprehensive schools doing ...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Credit Roodlesnouter for this image, but also it could have been the little wheels on the chain sprocket thingy at the top of the lift, look closely you will see them.

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

But the objects that flew off were black in colour. Surely it couldn't have been these blue chain guide wheels. That's what is puzzling me. :s Imagine any coloured item covered in grease and oil over a prolonged period of time. Not only that but the pictures of the fallen wheels were taken against ...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

So it's these blue things that came off. There is no way they would have just come off. I'm thinking a portion of the track has been damaged on the lift, and the motors just sheared these things right off.

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

I'd rather they closed it for the remainder of the season than risk the safety of everyone who dares ride it. It's clearly got some serious issues and I personally wouldn't feel safe going on it until they've sorted them. I completely agree, but in my opinion, in 2013 with technology being advanced...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Just close the ride until next year. It's obviously not in a fit state to operate. There's just been way too many serious problems with it. This seems to be a little unfair to say, if you were going next week would you say close it then?  I think for the people who have booked to go over the l...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Would be interesting to know what those actually are, they do look like bearings but the AT representative said they were guide wheels. This sort of thing just shouldn't happen.

Re: Rudeness to staff

its interesting, this lady just barged through the smiler que and said "that's my family is that ok?" It wasn't mine to say because there were other people infront of her, so mathematically she needs to clear it up with each of them aswell. Twice it happened to me that day and because I t...

Re: Rudeness to staff

E Cigs are fine for people to smoke where they want if you ask me, the problem is some staff members in all sorts of businesses are not trained to deal with people correctly, if you think about it, people who visit Alton Towers will come from all corners of the country, and I know for a fact that pe...
