Re: The Smiler - Speculation

And it also mentions 'same type' aswell as manufacturer in there somewhere I think.  Gerstlauer seem to getting more adventurous with their custom designs like Iron Shark and Takabisha, maybe a new productline that has evolved from the Eurofighter or at least the next step in their development....

Re: Drayton Manor 2012 Season

Wouldn't new trains require tweaks to all of the sensors, computer systems etc?  Not sure how different the Intamin trains are to the B&M ones 'under the hood'.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

The coaster enthusiast tradition; getting excited by a pile of dirt and a digger, continues to live within us all!  :rolls:

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Cool idea though!  But yeah, snappy transitions taken backwards on this look like they have potential for big ouch factor.  That straight track section will just be for brakes and blocks IMO.  Darnit Towers, we need some new artwork to give us a clue.  ;)

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Yeah it looks about right timetable-wise for a big Eurofighter.  Didn't it say in the planning documents they want it starting vertical construction in September?  This would match Saw, which flew up; plus a few extra weeks to account for extra track length. I guess a side bonus could be t...

Re: Drayton Manor 2012 Season

ImURNemesis - Drayton did submit planning applications to build on this area, so who knows? The new coaster is supposedly going to sit near the Buffalo and "interact with the lake". This could very well be the planned location. Sounds interesting! Please be a Mack Launch! I can just pictu...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Nice!  They actually look pretty good.  I hate the Dare Devil Dive lapbar trains, they look so clumsy and odd. Those above look about as elegant as a Eurofighter train could be I think.

Re: Drayton Manor 2012 Season

What?!  Pirate Adventure going?  Dammit, yes Thomas Land has been a big hit Drayton but this is a high price to pay for an extension.  I very much doubt they could put in anything of the same calibre. With some decent investment an already great ride could be fantastic.  It's sti...

Re: Drayton Manor 2012 Season

I suggested a trip there to a few mates yesterday, they wanted to know what the 'on the gate price' was and when I told them they laughed, they thought I was joking.  Fair do's you can get offers and prebook etc but the price increases this year deffo seem to be putting people off.  Not go...

Yup, even every 5 minutes for a frame would be great.  Great news about the timelapse, brilliant pics too.  :)

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I'm struggling to think just how much more can be done with coasters now, the technology has come so far lately.  It'll be interesting to see if SW7 will have a technically innovative aspect (like Air had at the time with its trains, and Th13teen has with its drop section). Or if it will use cu...

Re: So how long have people here been visiting Alton Towers?

2001 was my first visit, so I'd have been around the 13/14 mark, something like that.  Was fantastic because the place was empty; the day turned into a ride marathon.  Lost count of how many visits since, a helluva lot that's for sure. :D

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I honestly can't see them changing the layout for anything other than minor tweaks to do with the engineering aspects, what we see on the plans is what we're getting I reckon.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Good point.  Hadn't considered that; full on demolition of the steelwork instead of careful deconstruction.  It has been a part of Alton for so long I assumed (for some completely unfounded reason) it wouldn't get junked.
