Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

The park was operating moderately OK yesterday. Some degree of Wicker Man downtime which seemed to get resolved quickly, but unfortunately Rita went down around 1pm and after a brief re-opening shut down for the day very quickly. When both rides were down, there were obscene queues on Thirteen, X-se...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

I don't think the length of queues is really an excuse. The rules are very clearly laid down, and I'm sure the same people somehow manage to get through a film at their local cinema for nearly 3 hours without lighting up. They smoke because they're outside and that's good enough for them.

Ride order

With new opening times for different sections of the park and a new ride, would anyone care to share their strategy for moving around the park and making the most of the day?

Re: The State of Towers Street

The only thing I'd say is it looks a bit 'low rent' when compared with other parks that have a more Mainstreet USA scale. It would cost a huge amount to re-do though and I'm not sure how much value it would add.

Re: Alton Towers Resort - Quick Questions

I've booked a hotel stay for one night, and planning on entering the park the next day. If I buy park tickets at the door, how do I use ERT?

Re: Derren Brown's Ghost Train - New for 2016

Rode it today. 11am opening but the queue opened at 10.45. They let people queue in the overflow bit from park opening. My spoiler free verdict was that it was an interesting and unexpected experience but I was much less impressed and frightened than it sounds like the rest of the carriage was. Sent...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

The projectors were off for all of yesterday, makes it a very depressing room to wait in. The staff were absolutely fine yesterday, no issues at all, and the lady batching riders into the air gates was very friendly.

Re: Splash Landings Vs Alton Towers Hotel

Just back from the Alton towers hotel yesterday, have stayed in splash landings previously. I much prefer ATH for the same reasons everyone's pointed out. It's slightly more adult oriented, has better bar and dining options, a beautiful outdoor area (when it's not under construction), it isn't humid...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Yesterday queues of up to 120 minutes, so on peak days it's desperately needed.

Re: Derren Brown's Ghost Train - New for 2016

I did think though that when they decide it's finished they'll say that the opening day is Thursday or something along those lines. They need to let the press know to attend surely. Otherwise it's a wasted free PR day.

Re: Derren Brown's Ghost Train - New for 2016

Thorpe Park Twitter still saying no definite opening date. Very strange stuff.

Re: Derren Brown's Ghost Train - New for 2016

I saw that too, but I can't find any reference to it anywhere on the internet. It's not on Twitter, neither Thorpe Park or Derren Brown have mentioned it, it's not a Thorpe Park press release, and most critically nobody on this site has mentioned it.

Re: Derren Brown's Ghost Train - New for 2016

Yeah the ultimate lesson here is to be completely non-specific about your opening until you're sure it's ready. If they'd said Summer 2016 we'd still all be patiently waiting. As soon as they reckon it's done they can say "Opening next week" or something. The lead in doesn't have to be hug...

Re: Thorpe Park Quick Questions

I'm thinking of buying the standard Thorpe Park annual pass. I reckon that whilst I might make one AT trip it wouldn't justify the extra spend of the MAP. My question is, with regards to the summer nights and fright nights and all that stuff, how does one go about purchasing those tickets if you don...

Re: Fire at splash!!!!! 15/02/14

If there was any sort of fire (or maybe a piece of smoking equipment, maybe an alarm set off with no cause found etc...) it clearly wasn't significant. Everything seems fine now.

Re: I need Nemesis and The Smiler Experts!

If it was me I'd spend a bit talking about the technology as well. Vertical lifts, magnetic breaks, scenery that can interact with the track, the restraint mechanisms, the engineering that can put such a huge roller coaster in such a small space, how it's quieter to gain planning consent etc.

Re: Ride Downtime 2013

Stopping on the lift hill is nothing to do with a breakdown, it is the opposite in fact; the staff are being over-efficient and filling and sending the train earlier than required That's not 100% right, stopping on the lift hill can equally be an e-stop. Air often slows right down after beginning t...

Re: 2013 Season - General Discussion

I like the way there are ducks all over the Flume area, Mutany bay and even in the Dark Forest Mr and Mrs Duck like to waddle down on a busy day. I had a sit down in Mutany bay one day and after 10 minutes, realised MR Duck was sleeping int he flower bed behind me minding his own business. There ar...

Re: Ride Downtime 2013

Spent a day and a half at AT just there and for the first time in my life I didn't see a speck of downtime. All rides from my perspective were behaving excellently!
