Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

Report from Thorpe Park (29/8/14): We know Thorpe very well, but this was the first time we have been with the VIP passes. It was just me with my daughter (7). Overall this was a great day. When we arrived, the car park looked exceptionally busy and they were diverting cars to the grass area on the ...

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

Yes - if I start being denied access at ride exits on non-FT rides, I will have something to say. My wife and I called the VIP helpline twice before purchasing the passes, and we were told both times that on non-FT rides, we can use the exit gate. That was a big factor in our decision to buy them, a...

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

No, Chessington (4 visits) / Legoland (1 visit) have not phoned after filling out the form.

Does it have to be quite a way in advance? E.g. if you were to decide at 10am to go at 2pm that day, would it be enough time.... or at the weekend.. etc.?

I shall certainly drop them a note anyhow.

Cheers

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

I've made a couple of short VIP trips to Chessington recently, and a full day at Legoland Windsor yesterday - so I can add to Paul's excellent trip notes. My main gripe has been the arrivals process. Despite doing the online booking each time, they didn't appear to know we were coming: Chessington 1...

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

Does anyone know what happens after the first year of VIP pass ownership? - Will the renewal price be higher? (This year's wording was "Introductory Price") - Will discounts be available? (as in the half price sale they sometimes do in January / use of Tesco points) - Assuming all 1,000 se...

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

Good idea nuttyslack, I will email the VIP team later on, and will post the response when I get it. On Saturday at Chessington, I asked for a non-fizzy drink for my daughter as she doesn't like the fizzy ones, and they said no problem and filled it up with Oasis. They did say I could also have tap ...

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

That bit about queues being in your past, is on page 2 of the booklet that came in the VIP pack sent in the post.

True... although in the blurb it says "queues are in your past, not your future"!

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

Another thing I would like to ask them about is the drinks capsules that come with the VIP Annual Pass. I've never had these before and my points are: 1. I hate carrying round these things all day, and would prefer to go a a drinks stall as and when and just ask for a small cup of Coke etc. 2. My wi...

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

Has anyone tried to use the VIP pass on Depth Charge at Thorpe Park? Before purchasing our passes, we did ask about any rides that did not operate FastTrack, and were advised that for those rides we should go to the ride exit instead. Depth Charge is a classic example of this - but also for obvious ...

Re: Merlin Membership

I really like the concept of this, and would ordinarily be very interested.  However for the last 3 years we have converted out Tesco Clubcard points in to annual passes.  It works out at around £46 I think in Tesco vouchers to get a Standard AP (which you could then upgrade for £35 cash)....

Re: Queue jumping? Have you ever seen anybody punished for it?

Here's a copy of some of my observations I put on an earlier thread: At Legoland last year, I was there with my daughter, at the time she was 4.  We were in a queue, and after about 15 minutes she announces she is desperate for the toilet.  So, I left the queue, went to the toilet, and re-...

Re: Chessington 2013 Closed Season Updates

I was at Chessington last Saturday and the new paintwork around Vampire looks very good. The new "Vampire Bites" was open.  I didn't eat in there but did notice that a lot of the "ghoulish" details had been removed and the nice vampire bat style chairs have gone and been rep...

Re: Thorpe Park Terrible Car Park System!

However, if they added £x to the gate price, they would be missing out on the car park charges that currently have to paid by Blue annual pass holders.

Re: Thorpe Park Terrible Car Park System!

Not TP related but this reminds me of a ghastly experience I had a while back. I left my car in a multi-storey car park in Croydon one afternoon and took the train in to London to watch a concert in the evening.  Arrived back about 1am and put ticket in machine which said the charge was £15.&nb...

Re: Warwick Castle parking with WC Annual Pass

I have yet to visit WC, and don't have any knowledge of the area and parking problems, but by the sounds of it, a local worker in town has a rather handy parking solution.  Instead of driving round and round and eventually paying £4 per day to park, they can purchase a Merlin / WC Annual Pass a...

Re: Chessington World Of Adventures: General Discussion

Anyway, I thought the park looked in great shape. The staff were all friendly, The new show was great fun and fits in well with the rethemed area (be interesting to see what they do when the IP runs out) and the parking was well managed. Excuse my terrible ignorance, but could someone tell me what ...

Re: Chessington - The Weather House

Out of interest I got in touch with Chessie, they said that it has gone on the basis that it no longer fits in with the theming (i.e. was ToyTown).  No indication that it would return.  Shame I don't have the space... I could have made an offer for it and kept my daughter amused in the bac...
