Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Bit of a slow start for the Smiler this morning. :/ Testing up until 9:45, then mechanics seen on the first airtime hill, further testing delaying opening until about 10:30. Then A/V problems - no projections working leaving a pitch black inside queue. After 5 minutes of everyone walking into each ...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Well if you wrote it that way wouldnt it be the 3rd to last inversion then as the chinese one has 11 so the 12th would take the crown. This was to be my next question. If it's one inversion inside the station and the other 13 are visible anyway how does hiding 1 inversion "hide" the recor...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Having loosely followed the construction I was under the impression that there was a secret element to the ride that was censored in the construction photos. Obviously what was censored was the indoor inversion part of the track, but I can't understand why they were censored, other than to hide them...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

I remember when people were arguing with me, that they would never take the train of the track at the point where it had stalled, well all i can say is my point has been proven. It is much easier to take it off where it is than pull it to the nearest brake run. My thoughts exactly, I never could un...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

I believe the crane pulls the car though the track. You can't get a better source than Alton Towers themself. Although most people say that it is taken off, I think this may depend on what the issue is. Obviously if it is an issue with the train, then it cannot be pulled through the track as this m...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Taken from TT News: Alton Towers latest rollercoaster, The Smiler opened over a week ago. With the immense amount of positive reviews clearly outweighing the negative, The Smiler has been a massive hit to guests of the resort.  It was therefore only going to be a short amount of time before fa...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Just viewed a Tweet by AT saying that you can start que'ing for The Smiler at 9am, suggesting that ERT isn't needed to do this. Anyone confirm this? What they mean is you can start queuing before it opens. Much like for example if you were to queue outside the post office before it opens, you'd be ...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

The reason the whole of X Sector was closed was because the train yesterday had to be manually pulled throughout the rest of the circuit before reaching a break in the track (I am assuming the switch track for the maintenance shed) before being taken away - as pictured. They don't seriously have to...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Yeah I was, and to be honest from where I was stood, it was difficult to tell how many trains they had in the station area so I couldn't tell if they had 2, 3 or 4 trains going. The point I was trying to make is do we know definitively if the train that valleyed ever made it round, be it yesterday, ...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Could this just be as simple as a bad train coupled with it being first thing in the morning and it being empty? This would cause a train that struggles more than the others to go from creeping round to actually not going round at all. Being early morning has nothing to do with it - 4 trains made f...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

If they had any doubt that it would stall with guests on it they wouldn't open it. Hoping they start testing it earlier tomorrow so it can be open for 10 o'clock! Be interesting to see if there is one less train now than normal as all the evidence points to it being a faulty train for whatever reas...

Excellent, how long before it stalls?

Let us know how many different trains they are using and how long you had to queue from the moment it opened until you got on, please?

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

When i was watching it yesterday there were 4 trains and from what i can remember they all went slow, not just round the batwing but the entire track. Train 1: out on it's own completed a full circuit, empty with no dummies. Train 2 and 3: About 15 mins later, slowly round and empty with no dummies ...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

First train goes out on it's own, completes a circuit without issue. Second train goes get's to the vertical lift hill and the third train goes. Both trains make it home although noticeably very slowly especially around the loops towards the bottom of the ride area. Next two trains leave at the sam...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

So I was there this morning, got to the park yesterday and stayed over ready to go first thing this morning. 9am for gates opening straight to the Smiler for 5 past 9, only a queue of say ~50-100 people in front of me so I would of been off the ride by 10:30 at the latest! If anyone wants to know th...

Re: Use of Sun free tickets for disabled guests

The problem with the carer using one of the free tickets means another person who is coming will be without a ticket. Basically there are 3 adults and a toddler in our group with one of the adults being disabled. Normally if you were to buy directly from Alton Towers you'd only need buy 1 regular ad...

Use of Sun free tickets for disabled guests

I've searched the internet, the sun's website and rang alton towers about this and I've got nowhere. Basically I want to know if a disabled guest can use the free tickets given out by the sun recently without their carer having to buy an additional ticket much like a standard ticket. Has anyone done...
