Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I can just see this type of report in the press.... Nigel from Hanley had a lucky escape after another ride appeared to show a technical glitch at Alton Towers. With the Deadly collision on the Smiler ride fresh in everyones mind, the thirteen coaster appeared to stall. Nigel was on the ride, when i...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Just had a look at the Alton towers facebook page, and its full of comments such as will the park be open on XYZX date. On the face of it it does appear to be crass, but when you factor in that some people have paid a lot in transport/travel and accommodation its understandable. The longer its dragg...

Re: Two Smiler trains collide -- BREAKING

Ive just seen this, and had a quick read through. As it is it appears that this is something that should not have happened, accidents like this should be programmed out of the system. As it is its far to early to speculate as to what happened/who was to blame etc. Thoughts go out to those who are st...

Re: The Future of The Flume

I rode the flume for the first time in many a year last year, and er well ( where have the fibre glass dinosaurs gone??) it definably needs a bit of TLC but a family ride such as a log flume is in my opinion an essential part of a park such as Alton Towers, not only is it suitable for all the family...

Re: The Future of Sonic Spinball

The cheapest option would be for it to revert to spnball whizzer, or just spinball and keep it until it becomes un economical to repair

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Just spotted this story on the BBC, reading into it a little more aren't these just guide wheels that keep the lift chain ruining smoothly inside its channel?
How long before this gets warped and repeated as the wheels fall off the coaster, as in the final destination film?

Re: Air tunnel - New lighting

A touch of sky blue paint with a few white wispy bits to represent clouds would improve the situation somewhat, and it wouldnt cost the earth.

Re: People smoking outside of designated areas.

On the last few times that I have been to Alton Towers, it's not just tobacco that was being smoked in the queue lines. I've even seen Alton Towers staff walk by turning a blind eye (to tobacco smokers).

Re: Going it Alone

Ive done the single rider thing when ive been in a small group and the people whom ive been with have been unable to go on certain rides, likewise its been used as a method to get through the ques quicker, it means that you dont get to ride next to your mates, - or sometimes go on the same train. bu...

Re: Which Do You Prefer: Air or Th13teen?

13, air seems like a lot of faff for not much bang, and that tunnel at the start is appalling all it needs is a lick of paint ( ( sky blue with some painted on clouds/video projection )
13  if taken for what it really is- a family coaster, is a cracking little ride with some nice air time.

Re: Hold on Tight! Here We Go, Here We Go!

I will usualy ride the train in whatever position is comfortable. if the OTSRs have a hand hold grip, and its more comfortable to place my hands on that then thats what i do, likewise with lap bars or any other restraint - hands off hands on, holding on not holding on, hands in the air, hands on you...

24 hours inside the park - plus a load a Scouts camping on the lawns overnight

Apart from enjoying various theme parks rides attractions etc, I am also involved as a Leader in the Scout Association. Last year the opportunity arose to combine Scouting, Theme Park and Camping all in one, after seeing a flyer/poster/add for a Scout camping weekend inside the theme park, after a f...

Re: Why Don't People Like Rita?

Rita, the main thing i dislike about this ride is the horrific que that seems to take forever - even when its short. Theres nothing wrong with the ride per say, but the horrific long never moving que, coupled with a ride thats over in a blink, all be it a very enjoyable blink puts a dampener on thin...

Re: The Future Of The Skyride....

sky ride, why?

As far as im concerned its the cable cars, an essential internal transport system, especialy as to get from one part of the park to another ( the bit with nemesis in to the bit with Rita in it) entails a walk down a steep path, then back up the other side of a valley again.

Re: Group booking yes or no?

Is there an option of arriving Saturday early afternoon and doing something. As far as i know the only option is to arrive on Saturday as the parks closed/closing, if anyone wants to arrive earlier then they can either wait, or pay to get in. mentioned that sometimes scouts camp over to a guy at wo...

Group booking yes or no?

Sometime next year I will be in a position to book a group of Scouts into alton towers. Arriving at the theme park on Saturday evening after closing time, setting up tents on the lawns at the bottom of towers street, near the lake. a couple of hours at the waterpark, camping overnight in the theme p...

Re: People smoking outside of designated areas.

I and other people pay a lot to get in, since I have not got a map any more, I will smoke out of areas! Not in quelines or outside food places! But at the end of the day I know Alton can ask you to stop but if you say no they can't force you to because you are outside! I know this from working ther...

Re: On-Ride Breakdown's Experience's

Not very exciting, but heres one ... A few years ago, stuck on the black hole whilst going up the ride stopped, and we thought we were at the top about to drop, then a pause, and another stop, and nothing for a short while. Then the lights came on, and we were on some sort of spiral trac, looking do...
