Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

And it is commonly known what relationship TT have with Towers - None! Nada! Zilch! TT aren't officially linked to Alton Towers, but they do have some kind of working relationship - which is obvious. They have personally contacted TT with exclusive news tid-bits in the past, have given TT merchandi...

Re: Why Don't People Like Rita?

it's just so different to any other launch coaster I've been on :) You mean lack of power and a huge jolt as it goes round the first bend? i've got used to that jolt tbh :) I'd go one further and say I actually like that jolt! It was a bit unnerving the first time, but after that I kind of li...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

... but I want to defend myself. Last week I was given a hard time by a member (mikecloud1984) when I said that just because one train was seen leaving the ride, and that the ride was now working, it doesn't mean it's only a train issue (or a train issue at all for that matter). ... I stopped reply...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

I say it's unfair on AT because everything that has gone wrong has not been their fault - it's all Gerst who have supplied a new coaster design (new tech anyway), new trains and the fact thats its a worlds first ride. There really isn't much more they can do to get the ride working properly and con...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Geez, this coaster is a mess! I hope they sort everything out very quickly. It's as bad for AT as it is for the guests. I agree with whoever said that they should just completely close it (and make an announcement about it) until they fully test it - they can then make another announcement to infor...

Re: So has The Smiler topped Nemesis?

I still think some people are making the "You cant compare the 2 rides" thing into too much of a big deal. The point of this thread is simply 'which is your favorite ride overall', and the reason Nemesis was used as the ride to 'compare' to or the one to be 'beaten' is because there are so...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Ok this gonna sound really random but hearing people mention that because the smiler has a second lift hill it would class as two coasters *which I do not agree with btw* if colossus was to let riders round two circuits at once would it b the worlds first 20 looping coaster? Because although the tr...

Re: 2013 Offers, Deals, Vouchers and Discounts

There is a new midweek thrillseekers hotel with 'free' park tickets offer going for June, not as good as last years though because it's £139 rather than £99 - but most importantly this time the tickets are really not free at all because you can get the BnB offer on the same night for just £117! So t...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Any chance we could all have another circular and impossible to win argument about whether there is problems only with the trains or whether there's a chance there could also be additional problems with the track and ride mechanism? Seems like there's a perfect opportunity to start such an argument ...

Looking at pictures incoming there is a train stuck on the V-Lift, and it looks to currently be closed.

Is it still stuck up there? Someone posted it had come back down, unless it's happened again. Ridetimes still says 150mins too but maybe they aren't updating till they know what's going on.

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

I actually say back row for my first go. Second row for my second go and first row for my last go. It was definitely not train related with the roughness. It's the track. There's a very harsh bump on the way out of the batwing or cobra roll (I get mixed up. The one just before the final double cork...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

@MAtt1990 , where were you sitting for the last 2 rides? You said it got worse later on and also mentioned you were near the front the first time, just wondering because a lot of people have said that the back is much worse in terms of  ride smoothness etc and was wondering if that was the case...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

I had a feeling those novelty wheel covers would be removed at sometime, I doubt they had any bearing on the speed of the train mind you, however I suppose every little bit helps.  They did look good mind you. I was wondering if maybe they were taken off for ease of access to the wheel areas f...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Taken from the above link i posted The problem is that the wheels create quite a bit of friction. While operating consistently on a hot dry day, the wheels and air resistance will be at it's lowest. Some roller coasters have trim brakes that compensate while others do not. The biggest problem is ge...
