Re: Planning Application for Enhancements to Air

Checking the plans it says there's going to be a pre-show area in the 'proposed plans' doc. That's pretty nifty and suggests a backstory-esque development, or at-least a light show (a-la the smiler's internal queue) might be in the works?

Re: TheSmilerMan

That's just stupid... they're all close up cameras on specific sections of the track. Why isn't there an overview camera of the ride somewhere? Surely someone might have thought a viewpoint of the whole ride might be useful for the ride op.... ](*,)

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

The brand is clearly toxic as it is, and it is likely a rebrand would be damning of the towers (as if they were seen to be covering up the incident)... The ride may have cost Merlin £18 million, but whatever happens it will always be remembered as that rollercoaster that crashed. As such I put in wi...

Here is another link to the Guardians report on this accident. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/11648454/Why-was-The-Smiler-open-Alton-Towers-ride-dogged-with-technical-glitches-ahead-of-accident.html This report is the kind of media scaremongering that does nothing but panic the masses. Re: SW8

It's slated for 2018, isn't it? So I doubt the smiler will have much of an impact by then (at-least let's hope not).... this may alter the intended ride type though. We may be given something more sensory/indoors instead of a rollercoaster as AT might go into rollercoaster shock over these next few ...

Re: Two Smiler trains collide -- BREAKING

This really says something about Gerst's ride construction. I always found it strange that their rides encountered so many problems (Basing off my own experience - I don't think I've been to thorpe park once without Saw breaking down) and now I wonder as to what irresponsible development in the desi...

Re: Which restaurant to choose?

Just got back yesterday from the towers so have recent experience: The secret garden is a good all rounder so is probably worth it for one of your night, and we were pleasantly surprised with the food quality for price. Flambo's is a bit more expensive (with the all you can eat buffet at £20-odd qui...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - Quick Questions

I'm planning on going to the towers over this weekend, and the weather seems set for rain - does anyone know a good quiet picnic spot in the gardens/towers that are covered? Is the orangery closed for access at the moment? Because I remember it being very good for picnics when I was little... All id...

Re: Theme Park Urban Legends

Alton Towers' legends are so well known that they've become part of the attraction line up (Hex - for the rare noob amongst us). There are also quite a few pertaining to different deaths at various points in the estate's history. Interesting reading about the legend of the drunk who died on the step...

Re: Rollercoaster Tycoon World

Sigh - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzgAhPffWsM - it looks worse than RTC3. Hopefully just an early render of the game, but still, if I were the one selling this thing I'd think twice about letting such a bad video out into the brutal clutches of the internet world... It really is terrible.

Re: Hotel Prices

It'll be the bank holiday that drives the prices up... if you can book sometime ether side of the holiday the prices will be much cheaper. Then again, nearby hotels/B&Bs are quite good, or so I gather.

Re: Hotel Prices

Yes, that does seem expensive... I got all inclusive for end of April (Park tickets, B&B) for 5 of us for £307. Best to give them a call and see what deal they can do. The online prices aren't tactile so can't help you shop around for the nearest cheap dates like an operator can.

Re: Chessington Tomb Blaster Incident - 07/05/12

I've been at the recieving end of Merlins lack of H&S consideration and genuinely believe a fine of £150k is far below the threshold they should be charged. Out of interest, what happened to you then & at which park/attraction? To me Alton Towers, Thorpe park and other merlin attractions I'...

£150k fine for the park.
Honestly I'd have hoped Chessington would've been monitoring such little things like the quality of fencing, etc. It's an abysmal mistake to make.

Still time for planting... granted though, each cottage would be nestled amongst very little trees for the first few years if they do.

Re: Chessington - The Future

I'm pretty sure Peeking Heights is the ceiling for the park, and the further down the park you go (towards Transylvania and Pirates) the worse it gets. Yep, Chessington is built in the London green belt. There's no chance they're going to be able to build high... hence the original idea of Thorpe b...
